Lost Midwife; Seeking Recommendations

I am 21 weeks along and I recently lost my midwife (Kelly Fritz) due to the OB/GYN she worked for (Dr. Michele) deciding to end/leave her practice. No word on where my midwife will go - they say call back in a month. She was the only midwife with privelages at Olathe Med which is where I would prefer to deliver. I am seeking recommendations based on the following: (1)I would prefer a midwife to an OB/GYN, (2)I plan a completely natural labor experience. I did so with #1 and plan to again with #2 (3)I would prefer a facility that is family friendly and allows me to be online using video with my family in Europe during labor/delivery. I do not want to change rooms and would like to labor in a bathtub, preferably at a facility that has more than 2-3 tubs avaiable. Up until last week, I had all of that between my midwife and Olathe Med. (4)Finally, if I must use an OB/GYN, I want one that actively supports natural childbirth and will use medical intervention only as a last resort. So, if you have any input that could help me out, please let me know. Thanks a lot!

I am so bummed! I have used Kelly for the last 2 1/2 years. I too was planning to use Dr. Michele with my future pregnancies. I would highly recommend Sally Riley who is a doula. I don't think she delivers babies, but she is an amazing resource. Dr. Douglas Brooks was my Dr. with my baby; however, I delivered prematurely so I didn't end up delivering with him. I think I might have Kelly's cell phone number if you are really interested in getting ahold of her. I would love to know what you decide to do or who you use because I too prefer natural childbirth. Kudos to you for going natural...it's definitely not easy, but it is so worth it!

Women's Healthcare group has several midwives available. I can't say I was wowed by their service, but I made up a birth plan, and was able to deliver completely naturally. I delivered at Shawnee Mission Med. Center and the staff there was awesome. They tagged my chart with the info that I wanted the tub, and they have several rooms with them. I was told that since most women want an epidural, if you know you will not want one and are not high risk, you will be first in line to get one.

Good luck!

I highly recommend Dr Patrick Herrick. I just had #3 two weeks ago and he's delivered all 3 of my kids. I've had completely natural births at Olathe Med each time. His office # is ###-###-####.

This may not be much help, but my first birth was natural at Olathe medical center. Dr. Douglas Brooks delivered, and he no longer delivers babies, but has another doctor in the office, Dr. Laura Ray who is nice and might be a good choice. My second I had at the Birth and Women's center in Topeka, and if you're willing to travel that far, it is well worth it. Some women have their prenatal appointments elsewhere (close to where they live) and only a few appointments in Topeka. Norla, the Midwife there is great. I'm trying to decide with my next one what to do, my plan was to use Dr. Michele's office, I'm so disappointed that she's gone! Have you thought about a doula? Even if you don't want one, they have a good idea of what doctors and hospitals are good for natural births. You might call one of them. Feel free to contact me with other questions. Good luck!
