Losing Your Plug/ When Did You Go into Labor?

Hello mamas. I have a question.. I am 38 weeks now (was 1 cm dilated my last visit @3 days ago..not sure how much effaced she never said, oops) and today I lost a good sized mucus plug (I assume it was the plug:) that was yellow. With my son it was more tinged with pink and I did not have him until 2 weeks later.. and that was being induced. He was past his due date. This is my second child and while I heard they can arrive before they are due I hope this happens here with me:) The officlal due date is May 17.
I've only had some random braxton hicks here and there but that's it aside from the plug this morning.
Anyone go into labor soon after losing theirs? Esp, if it was a second pregnancy? I know it varies but I'm just curious (and a little impatient, ha!)

What can I do next?

With my first one, my water broke a week early and had her two days later (long terrible story, lets just say my husband was very lucky to get a second child!) The second, I lost my plug a week after the due date. Had him the next morning. So, I had one a week early and the other a week late. That makes me right on time!!! They come when they come. I was so ready for #2 to get out I went bowling and played badmitten. Yeah, that didn't work! Good luck and many blessings.

I can honestly say that I never noticed loosing my "plug" with any of my 4 pregnancys... I went over 14 days with #1 and was induced. Went over 10 days with #2, induced (was dialated to 2-3 cm for 4 weeks) Went over 10 days with #3 was induced... dialated for weeks also.

I am currently waiting for #4 to arrive... I was due 5 days ago and if it doesn't happen before the 6th will be induced. Already dialated to 3 cm...

As soon as you start dialating your plug is not held in... If you are a fast dialator then you will see the chunk of mucus... If not, it sloughs off and is just flecks here and there.

My MIL swears that once you loose your plug you have the baby with in 72 hours. lol My mom says not so... she would loose hers weeks before labor would start... It depends on you... As for the " could arrive before they are due..." lol depends on you and when your baby is ready...

I am sooooo hopeing I go into labor tonight so I can sleep on my back without feeling light headed, no flipping over 600 times a night, and a slow down on the midnight pee trips... Plus being able to see this child that apparently has as many legs as an octopus and is in the prebirth chuck norris kick boxing class.... :-)

Good luck and each day gets you closer!!!

I actually lost my plug twice, because if you do not go into labor shortly after losing it, it will reform. So I was about 2 cm dilated, lost my plug and remained 2 cm dilated for almost 3 weeks before losing it again and then finally going into labor.

Don't stress about it, every woman is different so our experiences may not be yours. It does sound like you will go into labor soon though. Good luck!

Call your OB/GYN and tell him/her.

With my 1st child, I lost my mucous plug, and was going into labor too, at the same time. But I didn't go to the hospital until my contractions were about 5 minutes apart.
But I told my OB/GYN and called/paged him.

good luck,
Susan

With #2 I started losing my plug in bits and pieces the day before I had my daughter. The contractions really got going that night...hopefully you'll go soon! Good luck.

With my first two, I never saw my plug. With my third, I lost it and had her 3 days later. I am a firm believer that babies come when they come . . . BUT that didn't stop me from walking up and down hills (old wives tale) as soon as that plug came out! If you have a hill near you and are healthy enough to walk it, I'd say go for it. If nothing else it will pass the time until the baby gets here.

Good luck!

With my first one, on my duedate I lost the plug, shortly after my water broke and I had contractions a few hours later. But it took 22 hours to deliver her. With my next two never lost the plug but started having contractions 10 days early with my 2nd child and on my duedate with my 3rd. Every one is completely different.

I am due the 19th with my third I lost my plug a week and a half ago but to my knowledge it will continue to be made so no guarantees. I have to be induced tomorrow and I am still just 1.5 cm. So it could still be a while. I hear ya though the end is so rough and you get so anxious.

I don't recall ever losing the plug with my first. He went 10 days past due date... but still came on his own without induction.
With my second, I do remember losing the mucous plug and being very excited... but it still took about a week for her to arrive. She was 1 week ahead of her due date.
FWIW.

Man I am so jealous! I didn't see the plug with either of mine and have been induce with both and I was looking like crazy every day for that dang plug! But on the side of second babies coming sooner, I wish you the best girl! I just had my second in January and he seemed happy as a clam in there just like my first;) But, when they broke my water with him I did go into labor on my own and required no Pitocin and my labor was much shorter and I pushed him out in only 4 minutes!! So my second labor, while tough, was soooo much easier. I have to do mine all natural, so shorter was definitely better. Anyway, I have read that once you see the plug labor can be imminent but it can be a partial plug and reseal and then labor can still be a couple weeks off. So basically it can be right around the corner....or not...I know, really helpful info;) I hope it is right around the corner and wish you a great labor! Congratulations!
