So What Happened?

thankyou everyone who responded, I appriciate all of the advice. At the time of this post I was preparing for gastric bypass surgery and needed to lose 20lbs as I had quit smoking and gained that amount over what I had already weighed. I had the surgery on August 6th 2008, and have since lost 90lbs and still going strong. this procedure is not for everyone and I understand that, However, it was the right choice for me. So please don't criticize. Thanks again

I lost 21 lbs in a little less than 8 weeks with the Cambridge Diet. It takes a lot of willpower and others have lost faster than I but I also suffer from hypothyroidism so my metabolism is sluggish by design.

I don't like to use the diets where you have to starve. I like to use a healthier diet. What I do is I drink about 2 cups of grapefruit juice and have 2 grapefruits a day. I also exercise every day. I put some parsley in everything i eat, and that helps. DO NOT try the Atkins diet, as that may cause you a fatal blood disorder. I found this really good site on Google that lists all the diets.

Hi my name is A. I am 28 married mother of three. A 10 yr old, 4 yr old and 2 1/2 yr old. I struggled with my weight after I had my third baby. I was always thin before having kids, so it was really hard when I topped the scales at 210! YEP that's right and I started at 120. I got to 160 on my own then got stuck, so I turned to herbalife and lost 40 pounds in 3 months. I sell for the company now, so I can help you. Check out my web site at

Honestly, I'd be careful with low carb/high protein diets (like Atkins and such). They might be lower carb, but tend to have a lot more fat. For some people it works, especially if you watch your fat intake, but for others it really won't and can be unhealthy. I would suggest to just count calories. Burn off more calories than you take in - it's as simple as that. Also, a couple weeks ago I cut out soda and all drinks besides water and commited to drinking at least 70 ounces of water a day. I've lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks just from doing that. So just try to make little changes here and there - it sounds like you're already off to a good start! Good luck!

P.S. I also tried this diet a while ago called the Up Day Down Day diet where you diet strictly one day (down day) then eat normal the next (up day). It's actually really easy to stay on because you don't diet every day, and I've lost weight on it before. Here's the link: http://www.johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.samsbiz.com/

Hang on! First of all, if your doc has insisted upon this for surgery, he or she should have prescribed a regimen to get you there. obese surgical patients are high risk and they are supposed to guide you through this. Unless you are extremely overweight, there's basically no way you're going to lose almost 30 lbs in 5 weeks, it's nearly impossible. you're talking strictly controlled liquid diet and tons of exercise. get some help fromt he doctor who has insisted upon this. it's not healthy or realistic unless there is a lot of info you haven't given. i hope your doc can give you a little more support than it sounds like you've gotten so far.

ps, i am not sure why you have given up caffeine but isure wouldn't while on a weight loss diet. it increases feelings of fullness and wellbeing and decreases appetite, as well as raising your metabolism and helping you shed excess water. caffeine is abotu the last ting i would give up on a weight loss plan. just a suggestion.

Have you tried weight watchers? I lost 23 lbs in 6 weeks and I wasn't trying very hard. Or there is the new pill out alli. It is supposed to block the fats from being absorbed by your body so you can not store more, and burn what you already have stored. It has not so great side effects, like lots of #2 when you eat fatty stuff... but it says that if you don't eat that stuff it should really help. I have wanted to try it, but havn't got the money right now. You can check it out at myalli.com Good luck

I agree w/the other moms....27 pounds in 5 weeks is a lot to lose. And could be done in a way that's not exactly healthy. Two other moms recommended Weight Watchers & so do I. I started it about a year ago & have lost about 35 pounds. I could've lost more by now but have lost some of my motivation & will power. I also had a surprise pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage which got me off track for while. I feel for me it was a healthy way to lose weight which should be about 1-2 ounds per week. In the beginning I lost about 4 pounds a week for a few weeks cuz I was so motivated but mostly, I realized I was eating like a big pig before & started eating smaller portions. And, as hard it that was, it included smaller glasses of wine, too! So, if you don't want to spend too much money, a good way to start is smaller portions of foods, lotsa veggies & plenty of water along w/daily exercise. This may be a bit more than you're asking for but I was also careful not to refer to it as dieting in front of my 6.5 year old son who is very observant. I wanted to set a good example. I didn't want to refer to myself as 'fat' in front of him & just told him I was trying to eat more healthy. So far, he hasn't realized that I'm thinner...of course, he's VERY egocentric! He's heard people comment on my weight loss but don't think he really gets it. What he has seen is that I exercise more & talk more about eating better. I hope this helps & good luck!

We all want to lose weight that quickly, but how healthy is that. I use to lose weight so quickly and so easily but i would do it by skiping meals and eat barely anything, at the end of the day i was drained. I just recently started doing meal replacements. I eat an energy bar for breakfast, never skip breakfast. Im always on the go so they work great for me, for lunch I have a meal replacement shake or a bar, then i have a good dinner, along the day somewhere i have a fiberwise bar, its packed with protien and fiber. Including protien in your deit helps, i drink tons of water, if i start to lose energy, i add gin seng to my water. The meal replacement food, was ordered from a wellness company, im sure you have heard of it, alot of us moms on here talk about it. I was frustrated at first, but i see the weight coming off, slowly, but its coming off the healthy way.
Good Luck.

Record and count all of your calories - stick with 1200-1400 per day and exercise when you can. Also I have found that it helps to do "no carbs" after about 4pm. I have lost about 9 pounds but would like to lose about 10 more... if you want to be "weight loss buddies" and be each others support let me know :)

You should only allow yourself to lose 2 lbs a week to be safe. I am on LA Weight Loss and it works great (2nd time on it in fact, lost 35lbs the first time then had my baby so doing it all over again) and I lose 2-3 lbs each week.

Why do you need to loose it so darn fast anyway? I think your setting yourself up for failure with a goal and deadline like that.

Oh, if you drink soda, cut that out of your diet too.

Is there a specific reason you have to lose so much so fast? Healthy weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds a week - anything more than that has been pretty much proven to come back as fast as it left. That said, you can do it if you need to. Low-carb high-protein diets can be really high in fat so you want to watch your fat intake and hidden sugars (they're everywhere - especially high fructose corn syrup - check your ingredients lists). Limiting your calories and increasing your exercise are the best ways to lose weight - make sure you're doing strength training as well as cardio because muscle will burn more calories than fat. Like being pregnant, eating small meals throughout the day will help keep your metabolism going.

If the amount is random and you don't HAVE to lose that much that fast, I highly recommend Weight Watchers or something similar that allows you to eat a healthy, well-rounded diet (high-protein, low-carb is not healthy when you're not eating healthy carbs - like whole grains, fruits and veggies). I would also focus on learning healthy eating habits for after the weight loss so you can maintain it and not yo-yo. Hard to do, but worth it in the end for a lot of reasons. Good luck!

Yesterday I bought and started ALLI. It is $50, but I couldn't resist. So far I've had very few side affects. The first pill I took yesterday did make me go after I ate, but wasn't bad. I really don't want the side affects so I really watch what I eat. It says to start the low cal diet a few days prior, which I did. It also says that, if you consume less than 15 grams of fat per meal you shouldn't have side affects. I have had no side affects. I was a little worried about dinner last night, that is when I eat the most cals and fat. Still no side affects, I must be doing it right. This morning I had no side affects. I have no scale, so I don't know if it's working yet.
Good Luck
