I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to lose some weight. It's really hard for me to get time to work out b/c I go to school full time, work full time and have my kids full time. The days I am at school, it is really hard for me to eat healthy b/c I eat out 2 times a day those days. At my job I don't take a lunch usually b/c I don't work 8 hours a day. I want to lose some weight but don't know how. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

Hello J.,

My name is J. Rutledge. Try the grapefruit juice diet. Eat two eggs with two slices of bacon any style for breakfast wih a glass of grapefruit juice; for lunch eat a salad with a glass of grapefruit juice and then for dinner eat all the meat and vegetables you want. I was on it for about 6 weeks and lost wenty pounds in two weeks; then I found out that I was pregnant so I have put the diet on hold until after I have the baby.

hI J., I would like to put in my opinion he he he... I go to a group, TOPS OK 295 IN TULSA... they teach you how to eat right even if you are eating fast food.

My suggestion is to eat salads and grilled chicken. When i got pregnant with my 2nd baby i weighed about 280, i got really bad morning sickness and lost down to 260 then when i delivered him i was back at about 277, I gained 17 lbs. the day after i had him i weighed 255. WOW huh. well sense (4 months) i have not gained anything back. How you ask? If we go out to eat i get a salad with just a bite of potato salad or what ever they are ahving on the salad bar, and the f.f. dressing(all i want) and i drink tea.

Now if i go to mcdonalds and i don't want a salad, I get a grilled chicken club MINUS the mayo cheese and bacon. that saves you alot of calories. No fries with that either. just a tea.

I don't drink pop and i limit myself to 1 diet drink in the morning other then that NO POP. did you know that if you drink pop regularly and then you stay away from pop and only drink water and UNSWEETENED ice tea for one week you can lose up to 6 lbs?

try little things to change your eating habit. you don'thave to be on a strict diet. just don't eat fried or crispy chicken sandwhiches eat grilled, or have a snack wrap but get NO condiments on it. leave everything off ro get Mustard (mustard has very few calories).

Another thing i do is I count my points for my food. I use the weight watchers points counting system but go to TOPS because weight watchers is out of my price range and tops is only 5 bucks a month and you get weekly meetings plus a weigh in and all kinds of infor and great ladies and support.

Hope this helps you alittle.

I see lots of excuses not to lose weight up there in that message.

The truth is unless you invest the time in selecting decent food, including exercise in your day and making sure your body is really healthy, you're not going to lose weight.

Yes I can say that. I weigh 304 and I have had all the time in the world to do the first two things and I did but I couldn't lose a pound without skipping meals. Now that I have health insurance I'm on my hormone medications which causes my other choices to actually work.

You have the two most precious work out buddies available. Spend 20 minutes playing with them and you'll burn off that extra poundage.

Weight Watchers. It's the only diet I have been on that actually works. Buy the books off of Ebay so you don't have to join the club and pay fees and all that! :)

I am attending Weight Watchers right now trying to lose weight. I cannot imagine how you are doing everything you are. I am married and quit my job to go back to school full time and it is still hard for me to devote time to losing weight. My advice is to take it slow. I find that doing that helps keep it off. If you take diet pills, it comes off fast, but comes back and tends to pack on more in the process. Weight Watchers teaches you basically to make healthy life choices-it isn't just a diet, it is a lifetime change. I like that. I have found it helpful to take a little time on weekends to prepare vegetables (cut them up and put them in little packs to take with you to snack on) and keep them with you at all times. Cutting out a lot of the sugar helps also. Drinking water instead of sodas helps a whole lot-you get bloated and retain water when you drink sodas. Plus, drinking water just makes you feel better. I have also found it helpful to spend silly exercise time with my two year old little boy. Kids love it when you dance and move with them or chase them around the house and get down on the floor with them. Hope this helps and good luck. It has been slowly coming off for me and I have a lot to go, but I am feeling better about myself a little more each day!

I am also a mommy and a student which makes it difficult to find time, but you just have to. My mother has a friend who started her own diet...she allows herself 1200 calories a day and 20 fat grams. She also has been doing these exercise dvds called walk away the pounds and walk at home. She started out at 1 mile and has worked her way up to 15 miles a week and she does it right in her home!! She has lost 55 pounds in 5 months and is still losing. My mother and I have joined her in this program and my mother has already started losing, I have just started so not much for me yet but I really believe that exercise is key. I have done the dvd a couple of times and my kiddos love to join in and they can because it is just walking. They have one dvd at Target and it goes from a 1 mile workout up to a 5 mile workout and it was only 12.99. There are lots of fat free foods out there and low cal stuff too, you just have to look for it. I have also found that with me starting to eat healthier my kiddos love lots of the food too, which is better for them as well. I am not sure where you are located but if you want an exercise buddy let me know. I am in Bethany off of 23rd and Rockwell.

Hi J.,

Wow! Sounds like you have your hands full. I applaud you going to school. I know how hard it is with kids. As far as the weight thing goes. My Dr. told me that the best way to lose weight is to increase your protein. I finally found a protein drink I like. It is called Nectar. Orange Fuzzy is my favorite flavor
(kind of tastes like Orange Julius, but they also have it in many other flavors. You mix it with water and shake. I like it best over ice. It's pretty easy to do on the go. You shouldn't do the protein drinks instead of food for all your meals, but It's easy to keep a to go travel mug in the freezer with ice in it and just grab it to go in the morning. Or grab a cup of ice and bottle of water at school. Add your protein drink, shake and pour over ice. I like this brand particularly because you mix it with water and it dizzolves well. You can find it online or at natural food stores or the sports nutrition places. Some larger gyms even carry it. Regular grocery stores won't. I have seen it at gnc where they sell vitamina and protein drinks and at discount sports nutrition. I also keep the string cheese sticks on hand and carb freedom yogurt by blue bunny. Beef Jerky is another good protein source. Try parking your car a little further from your class at school or just walk around the building where your class is before class and after if you can squeeze it in. There is a 20-30 minute walk in your day. I have had good success with this method, but it is important to still get in your fruits and veges. Sometimes I just get a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and skin debone it and portion it out in zip lock bags. In a hurry, I can just grab one and eat in in the car on the way to work or at lunch. Hard boiled eggs, celery and carrot sticks are other easy ones. I keep veges cleaned and chopped in the fridge and mix some ranch dip and a little prepared pesto to dip the veges in. Anyway, I wish you well. If you have it handy in the fridge, or prepare things when you bring it home from the grocery store, it makes it easier. Good Luck.

J., Let me start by saying I hate to drink water. I know you probably have heard this a million times but drink it. I read an article that said how to drink it to lose weight and it has worked for me. I have been loosing weight in the 2 months that I have been doing this. Drink a glass of water every hour. Your second glass of water should be hot. It releases the toxing in your body. Ice cold water speeds up your metabolism so drink plenty of that during the day. Also before every meal drink a glass of luke warm water. It fills you up so you eat less. DONT be afraid to throw away that extra food. When you are full are getting full quickly throw the rest of that burger or whatever it is away. I hate to waste food, and I am always telling my kids not to waste food but I would rather have it in the trash than on my *ss...lol Give it a try Oh my hot water that I drink in the morning, I put pepermint, or pepermint tea in the water just a little to give it some flavor. Good luck!!!! And drink that water!!

If you eat small healthy meals throughout the day it will increase your metabolism. You shouldn't go more than 2-3hrs without eating. If you're never really hungry you will be less likely to overeat. Good luck!
