I don't believe that diet pills ever work. I have a 4 year old and 5 month old and a husband who travels......so needless to say no time for the gym either. It may sound crazy, but I've been counting my calories keeping to between 1200-1300 a day for the past 6 weeks now. It's not as hard as it sounds. After 3 weeks or so, you end up memorizing the calories in most of the foods you often eat and can approximate how many calories you've eaten at the end of the day. I also have been working out with the Wii FIt. I love it. I can squeeze in 15 or 30 minute workouts at home, in privacy, when my children are napping. Sometimes my daughter does the workouts with me :) I have lost 11 pounds now, so about 2 lbs a week. Hope that helps. Good luck with the weight loss.

I don't have any diet pill suggestions for you but I've been doing weight watchers online for a year now and have lost 65 lbs. I'm not one for the gym and don't eat like a rabbit either. I try to take a 40 minute walk 5 days a week and keep track of my points. With doing the plan online there are no meetings to go to. I will say though from talking with friends who have also tried WW, if you only have 10-20 lbs to lose the plan is a little harder to get going. Individuals who I have talked to who have had more to lose seem to do better getting started.

Good luck,
K.

How's this sound: For people who are too tired to diet or exercise..That is me too :) No counting fat, or calories ever again! IT IS NOT A GIMMICK, read on:

I feel like I tried every last pill I could find to lose that last few pounds. Nothing worked. I don't have a lot of time or energy to exercise due to my family schedule, just like you. My husband and I went to Costco and found a book called "The Belly Fat Cure" by Jorge Cruise. IT IS PHENOMENAL!!!! Honestly I have not eaten 3 meals and snacks in my adult life until now (ie: no eating like a rabbit!)

The concept is to reduce your sugar and carbohydrate count and that's that. It seems too easy and simple and I was kindof skeptical but I liked that he showed me how to make foods that I like from restaurants and make them healthy.

Long story short, just by learning what I am putting into my body sugar-wise, I lost 10.2 lbs and 3.5 inches off my waist in 6 days!!!!!!!! Hubby lost over 8 lbs in the same time frame. It is worth looking into. Seriously, even if you just look it up. Google the belly fat cure or jorge cruise or something of the sort, and you'll learn more than you can imagine about the sugar we consume and what it does to our bodies. I firmly believe in this plan as a lifestyle change. He also has an incredible 8 minute workout that will kick your butt into gear.

Hope you look into it, you will never look back.

Dear J., i know its hard to loose weight but pills are not the best for you. All the pills have side effects and they are not really good for your health. Just reduce portions you eat, add some veggies, fruits, ..... will work for you even if it will take some time.

Diet pill do more harm then good. The best way is to keep a track of what you are eating .You dont need to eat like a rabbit. When you are eating try to figure you are eating because you are hungry and not because you are craving. When ever you have craving for some thing more sugary or with fat drink some water and take your mind somewhere else .Soon your craving will go.
Drink plenty of water during the day-around 8 glasses.
Just to mentionwhat ever you chose ..a healthy weightloss is around 3.1 pounds in 2 weeks.

Don't try diet pills. They almost never work and are not worth the side effects. Try Weight Watchers. They teach you how to live in the real world, lose weight, and maintain your weight loss. They also show you how to work exercise into your life. They have meetings everyday, weekends, nights, days too. If you just can't go to meetings, you could join Weight Watchers on line. Don't short change yourself. Give it a try. It works!

It doesn't sound like you have the time or the mindset at this point in your life. I think the key with weight loss is to think of it as a "lifestyle change" and not a diet. Sure a quick pill may help you lose weight but then you are very likely to gain it back. According to WebMD, "The use of weight loss drugs should be combined with physical activity and improved diet to lose and maintain weight successfully over the long term."

I suggest that you look at your food intake for the next two weeks. Keep a diary of everything you eat. Look at the health benefits of the foods that you're eating versus eating a diet of mostly fruit and veggies and lean meats. Weight Watchers is a great place to start. You can do it all online and it really opens your eyes as to what foods are packed with fiber which will keep you full and it helps you see which foods are most healthy. I've personally lost 20 lbs on it so far. You can also do WW without excercise if you don't have the time, however I highly recommend incorporating physical activity.
There is a great article here: http://www.webmd.com/diet/guide/healthy-eating-and-diet-e...

What are your options in the morning for excercise? Even a 30 min walk in the am would have alot of benefits.

Anyways, I know ths isn't what you wanted to hear but why loose the weight without a plan? Your likelyhood of gaining it back is so high. Perhaps your goal should be to be healthy and live a long life for your kids and yourself?

I took diet pills once and lost quite a bit of weight from them, but as soon as I stopped taking them I gained all of my weight back PLUS SOME! I STRONGLY discourage diet pills. I have also been counting calories (and breastfeeding.) I eat close to 1200 calories per day and have lost 55 pounds since I gave birth at the end of July. I use the Lose It app on my iPod Touch for keeping track. My in-laws used the SparkPeople.com a few months ago and was very successful with it. The company that I am partnered with also makes some crave blocker bars that are very affective. Let me know if you are interested in hearing more about them.

Eat four meals of 400 calories a day. Don't eat more than 1800 calories. I keep 2 lb weights in my trunk and when I have a few minutes free I pull them out and do some basic exercises. If you'd like a more detailed break down of what I do email me. By working out for 10-12 hours a week whether at the park or in the gym and eating 1600 calories a day I lost 15 lbs in 2 months. You can eat what you want but it's all related to how many calories something has. 1 cup of carrots has about 30 calories where as a cup of flour has close to 400 calories... You learn to start making choices that allow you to eat more bulk without the empty calories. I'd love to share my thoughts with anyone who's interested, just send me a message. :)

You don't need to eat like a rabbit: eat foo, not too much, mostly plants. This means: stay away from processed food as much as possible. If you eat mostly natural food it's amazing how it satisfies your appetite. yes it requires more time to cut up your own veggies and cook them from scratch, but it's worth it, because you can basically fill up on a wide variety of plants-leaves, stalks, roots, grains, nuts, legumes-, and still have protein and fat in reasonable amounts. Find a reasonable calorie count/nutritional balance that works for you. A good source for this in Nutrimirror.com Good luck!

To lose weight, you'll just have to change little parts of your life. Like finding a carpool so your sons can go to practice but you don't have to drive every time. So you can work out on those days. And eating smaller portions and more veggies and fruits. It's simple but just hard to do it because you have to WANT to do it otherwise it's easier to just stay the same.

Hi J.,
I would avoid diet pills. They usually have side effects and you would just gain the weight back later.
Shaklee has a very effective weight management system called Cinch. Shaklee is the number one seller of natural supplements in the U.S. They also have more published peer-reviewed research than all other supplement companies put together. You can check it out at http://www.cinchplan.com/healthforlife
It will explain why most diets don't work and how to maintain muscle mass. This is not a low calorie diet,
so you won't be hungry.
I lost 3.5 inches off my waist in two weeks. I have kept off 3 inches for almost 3 years.
Good luck!

I think you should try walking, running, or biking while your boys are at practice (you can easily do this in the same area as them). You could also try some weight training (get some 3 pound weights, look up some exercises online, and do these while your boys are practicing). You should definitely use that time to do something. You can also try doing things as a family, biking, hiking, etc, although if they are doing things 5 days a week, that might be too much for them. I would definitely not do diet pills. Start by watching your portions, don't eat like a rabbit, but don't go back for seconds or take that second cookie. Also, add more veggies and fruit to your diet.

Hi, I have been trying everything to lose this last 35 lbs of baby fat i have left. So i tried the green tea diet pills there $10.00 at walmart for a 45 day supply. They give you a great boost of energy and help you curve your hunger. YOu take one mid morning and one mid afternoon. I the 4 weeks ive taken them i have lost 10lbs. so there not making you lose a whole lot of weight at once which isn't healthy. I eat breakfast, small lunch if im even hungry, and dinner is before 6pm. And after 6pm i dont eat anything. Thats the key you dont want to eat a big meal or high calorie snack before you go to bed bc it just turns into fat. So i only have 25 more lbs to go to my goal. Good Luck.

What has been working for me is journalling all my food at SparkPeople.com and working out more. I really want something like the Exerspy or the bodybugg (google either term - it's the device like the Biggest Looser people wear) to monitor how many calories I burn chasing kids. When my daughter is at swim practice, I either walk around the track, or the outside perimeter of the school the whole 45 minutes. Now I am up to alternating walking a lap with running a lap. Sometimes I do the bleachers as well.

Alli is a diet pill that requires food journalling to make sure you don't go over 15g of fat at a meal. If you do, the side effects are unpleasant.

As a sports nutritionis and personal trainer I can tell you diet pills are extremely dangerous. They can cause things from anxiety, depression, stroke, heart attack, ...
Plus they dont really work long term. You'll end up gaining the wait back if you lose any.
I recommend fitting in cardio and weight training any time you can. Even if its 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there. Get a few pieces of equipment (weights, bands, jump rope, use your stairs, etc...) and do it at home whenever you can.
Also, eat five to six SMALL meals per day focusing on lean proteins, limited amount of healthy fats and complex carbs.
Make sure you limit your calories to a reasonable amount too.
This should do the trick.
...and remember, if its quick it wont last. Your weight loss should be a lifestyle change and will be a process that takes a reasonable amount of time.

While the boys are at practice, walk around the field. You will still be able to keep an eye on their activities. Steady state aerobic activty combined with taking the "junk" out of your diet will work! I got rid of the snack foods and practiced portion control. That way I could enjoy my favorites. Skip the pills; they are not healthy, they really don't work and are just a waste of money! If you were to walk 5 days a week, you would see a considerable change! L.

Hi J.,

Here are a couple suggestions ..

While your boys are at practice, walk the field. This is a perfect opportunity! Walking is SO good for you, and you're already there - so no excuse not to!

Eating like a rabbit .. to have a healthy body, you have to feed it healthy food. You pretty much have to remove all processed foods from your diet. Sure! They taste good and are easy .. but they're terrible for your body. And you'll be setting a good example for your children that could help them live long and healthy lives, what mother doesn't want that :)

I don't eat anything fried, anything made from white flour, I limit my sugar intake (but I do give in to the siren call of the chocolate bar;) I eat A LOT of veggies, lots of fruit, chicken, turkey burgers ..

Here is how my day goes: coffee and a bananna with peanut butter for breakfast, a BIG salad for lunch (with baby carrots, kidney & black beans, a few green olives, spinach, a hard boiled egg, a tomato or 2. The filler is usually the Spring Mix from the grocery store, all sorts of beautiful, colorful lettuce and I will plop a bit of cottage cheese on top and use my Balsamic breeze Salad Spritzer or just plain old ranch dressing - not low fat or anything. Very filling, very delicious, and very healthy! PLus you're not all weighted down like you would be if you had a cheese burger or something heavy and greasy) and dinner is usually a meat and 2 types of veggies. Last night we had Hot Italian turkey sausages, steamed green beans with real butter and a little garlic and mac'n'cheese (for my son ;) I had a salad. We use a lot of organic canned green beans, corn and frozen broccoli - check out the freezer section at your grocer, they have some really fun mixed vegatable bags, just steer clear of anything that has a sause with it. I keep the cabinets and freezer FULLY stocked.

And my last bit .. I think you should try to lose weight on your own, if you have a real plan and stick to it, you WILL begin to lose. Diet pills .. they would be great if you could take them forever because that's what you would need to do to keep the weight they cause you to lose off. As soon as you stop taking the supplement .. right back to where you started. Losing weight and becoming healthy is about changing your lifesyle.

I was a size 15-17 and am now a 7 .. been at my current weight for 5 years :)

Best of luck to you!

Hi J. - After my second child my weight loss has been minimal. I pretty much do 60 minutes of intense cardio and 20-30 minutes of weights 5-7 days a week and was eating a 1200 calorie diet only to lose about 1/2lb a month! It was so frustrating and unfair. I continue to breastfeed, so I was blaming that, but then I stumbled onto a free site sparkspeople.com. It's free and filled with good tools. The original plan it put me on was 1200 calories and 90 minutes of exercise a week. Well, Once I tracked my diet and exercise for a few days (almost a year later!) it analyzed my routine and told me that in order to maintain my metabolism i needed 500-800 more calories and 30-50 more grams of protein a day. I was skeptical, but started to eat more....i just lost 10 lbs. in about 5 weeks by feeding my metabolism. I know that might not be your problem, but it will look at what you are doing and create a plan for you based on your weight loss goals. It shows you where your calories are coming from and your fat calories (I also was getting enough fat in my diet) - there is just too many wonderful features this site offers to list. Just check it out. It's free and might be just what you need. It's got TONS of tools from tracking your distance on a neighborhood walk, home exercises, meal suggestions, charts and graphs on your habits and what you need to adjust. It's easy and so informative that it will help you make the best choices to reach your goals.
(And walking those fields are a great idea when you're busy being mom!! Just keep your pace up just beyond comfortable!!)
Good luck 8)

Hi J.! You don't need a gym. All you need is a good pedometer and use that time when your boys are at practice to run or walk aroung the building and run stairs, if you can find some. There was just an article last week in Sports Illustrated about a mom who did that while her kids were at their multitude of practices.

As for diet. I recommend the book "The New Glycemic Revolution". Eating foods low on the glycemic index WILL help you lose weight. And you won't ever be hungry!

Good luck!

I agree with the other post about using your kids practice as exercise time. When my daughter is in gymnastics, I bring my ipod and take a walk. You can also park farther from the store and walk. If you watch any tv, exercise while you are doing it. There are plenty of exercises that you can do with a can of soup or buy a dyna-band. Resistance training is the best way for weight management, so start it now. Muscle needs more calories than fat storage.
In terms of food, cut you portion sizes, take skin off of your chicken and turkey, get leaner meats, and eat more fish. Keep a food journal. Most people are shocked to see how much they are really eating.
As a personal trainer, I have helped many people lose weight and keep it off. You need to be determined to change what you are currently doing. Diet pills are not the answer. The are dangerous and can become addictive because once you go off them, any weight you might have lost will come back on which will entice you to take them again.

Good luck

It will tell you how many calories you've been eating, as well as where you are in term of nutrients, vitamins and food groups (grains, fat, meat...)
I usually do it after lunch, so I have an understanding on what I should have for snack/dinner. It helps a lot understanding what you should eat, and in which amount.

Some well respected nutritionists say that if you eat a little lean protein with some good vegetables when you first wake up in the morning, then two hours later have all the water and good fruits/berries that you want, then have more lean protein and vegetables at lunch in small/moderate amounts, then later in mid afternoon more water and fruit, and at dinner have different protein and vegetables...and your after dinner snack with less than 100 calories....and warm water after dinner...you will see results. You have to keep your metabolism pumped by eating good foods....so that you burn calories. There is something about not drinking alot of water or fluids with meals ...you want to have that in between meals....it helps clear your system. Good luck...this DOES work...
