Any suggestions? We have a 3 yr. old beautiful daughter, which we concieved on our own. Had a miscarriage 2 yrs. ago at 11 weeks, and have never been able to concieve since. Went through 4 rounds of Clomid. Then just recently just recently did injectables and iui, 2 times...still nothing! My husband & I have both been tested & NOTHING is wrong??? Has anyone tried accupuncture? Thinking of trying the natural route. We want a big family sooo bad. Thanks for any responses.

What can I do next?

Hey C...

Stop trying. It's the best way. I know that's so easy to say and a hard thing to do, but just stop trying. Enjoy the road to being pregnant, change your frame of mind going through the motions, make it be about something else. Go get a head to toe massage, relax. Once you stop trying, it will happen. Oh, I knew this girl that drank a teaspoon ( I think) of robitussin everyday and she swore it helped her conceive.

C., My acupuncture instructor has an entire huge wall full of baby pictures that were acupuncture miracles. Many of them were even names after our teacher! These babies were all conceived after regular treatments and traditional methods failed.

You also need to be taking a high dose pharmaceutical grade fish oil. It will regulate your hormones almost instantly. You need to take between 4-6 pills daily and when you get pregnant, drop it down to 3-4. I suspect you are deficient in Omega 3 fatty acids. Also, both you and your spouse need to take a high quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
Many are recommending progesterone cream. Good advice too.

I don't know who does acupuncture in Metarie but I'm sure there are many. If you can find someone trained in CHina that would be great. Also, I would use someone that uses needles rather than electricity to treat the points. Personally I use electricity but when I am dead serious about a problem, I go to my Chinese acupuncturist and pay top dollar for the needles. Good luck. It won't be long now!

If you are thinking of trying a natural route, I have a suggestion. Check out www.wholebodywellnesssolutions.com and look under Glyconutritional Supplementation for Immune Support, from my understanding it helps with the communication of the cells and all organs are made of cells, maybe that could be your problem, I don't know. There is also a product called Plus that helps with the endocrine system (hormones) that could help.
Just a suggestion. I hope that you find the right answers on helping you with that family of yours.

I understand where you're coming from. Although we didn't go the fertility drug route, it took 7 yrs. of trying, with every test result saying we were both fine, before our daughter arrived. Have you gone to a nutrition doctor? There are toxins in everyone's body that could be effecting your ability to conceive. Or you could have a vitamin or mineral imbalance. Also, quit stressing. Stress has a definite negative effect on your body. I know it's easier said than done, but you should find time every day to relax your body and mind. Even if it's just a 30 minute soak with some calm music playing. At the very least, your body will thank you for the break.

I got pregnant very soon after starting natural progesterone. I do not understand why doctors do not tell us about natural stuff. Well, I guess since pharmaceutical companies train doctors that would explain it!

Be sure to research ingredients in the various natural progesterones though... as some contain parabans which mimic estrogen. For example, recently I was taking Prolief by Arbonne and saw that Arbonne products do contain parabans.

You can get your progesterone levels checked by doing a saliva test. In Oklahoma, Sherry's Drug in Edmond does those tests and you can call Sherry for more information.

My name is K. S and I have learned alot since I have been affiliated with Arbonne. You hormones are possibly out of balance. Most of all women and men are out of balance 'cause of all of the xenoestrogens we come into contact with. We get estrogen from foods that we eat, air pollution and household products that we use. I suggest that you try Prolief and use it twice a day. It is a natural hormone that is bioidentical. Another thing is have your husband wear loose underwear that may help. If interested in knowing more you can go to my website www.successfromtheheart.myarbonne.com or give me a call at ###-###-####. Thanks, K.

When I was trying to get pregnant, which took longer than I expected, I started taking Evening Primerose Oil. It's fairly inexpensive and you can find it at most healthfood stores. It is supposed to enrich your uterine lining to aid in egg implantation. A side benefit that I noticed before I got pregnant while I was taking it was that my menstrual emotional rollercoaster seemed to calm down quite a bit. I got pregnant about three months after starting it. I hope it helps, it can be so frustrting!!

If you really do want a BIG family (not just one more baby) have you considered foster care adoption? It is often hard to find someone to adopt sibling groups without splitting them up. Finding a placement for one or two kids is not so bad (as long as they are under 6 or so) but if four or five kids come into care together, it becomes a difficult decision - split them up so they have a better chance of being adopted or keep them together so they will always have their siblings. Also it is scary to place a big sibling group with someone who has never parented, because they will almost always be shocked and overwhelmed. You would be perfect because you have the experience of being parents, but your house isn't so full that you couldn't take on a group or 3 or 4 kids.

I know it is not what you are thinking about right now, but just wanted to give you something to think about. There are many ways to grow a beautiful family. Good luck with yours.

Dear C.,

Of course, everybody's different so I can only tell you my story, but after several miscarriages and lots of testing, the only thing found was low progesterone during the second half of my cycle. So we supplemented after ovulation. We also did injections/IUI for a bunch of months, which didn't work possibly because it thinned my lining, tho docs aren't sure. Finally, we tried "naturally" with just the progesterone supplementation and conceived that first month -- now I am due in July with our first.

So I guess I'd just ask your doctor if he checked progesterone levels post-ovulation -- it required 3 blood tests on 3 days in a row -- so sort of a pain, but I think it was the difference in our case.

Good luck!

Hey C.! I conceived our first daughter the first month we tried. The second time around mimicks your story. I went to a fertility specialist at UAB during May of '06 after 6 months of Clomid with my regular OB. He put me on Letrozol and said I would probably concieve in 2-3 months. I laughed at him inwardly, but he was right. It was very quick! I must say I know that Lord is the one who helped me conceive...at just the right. He just chose to have me go the infertility route the second time. I now have two precious little girls! May the Lord bless you! He knows the desires of your heart.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. I, too, had a secondary fertility issue with no "real" known reasons. We tried various things for 3 years to no avail. Emotionally it was very difficult for 2 reasons: 1) I couldn't conceive and 2) I felt a little guilty, since I already had one child (when others couldn't even do that).

I came to believe that the main reason for our infertility had to do with the birth control method that we used before we started trying. If you used something, you might want to go online & read about how it works & how long it can take to become pregnant after usage. The med that I used had just been released by FDA when I took it. After it was on the market for a couple of years, all kinds of long term issues were discovered (imagine that!). The main way that this med worked was to thin the uterin lining so that an egg couldn't implant properly. I happened to be one of the 1% that had that issue long term.

Anyway, its worth looking into. My main advice is to try to relax (yeah, easy?!). God will know when the right time is ... it's just not always ours.

I should mention that after we quit having fertility treatments, we conceived on our own (as we were beginning to look into adopting a sibling group) a year later, then another year later, and finally 7 years later. We ended up with a family of 4 lovely children!! Hopefully God thinks we are done NOW!

Take care & peace to you!

I have PCOS and I was told that I would never get pregnant. Five years ago I unexpectedly got pregnant with my daughter, and I just recently gave birth to my son. I tried for two years to get pregnant with my son and was only sucessfull when I gave up. I firmly believe that it is possible to try to hard. Mabe you just need to relax. It worked for me. I have two beautiful babies against all odds and if I can do it you can too. Good luck and I will keep you in my thoughts.

When you had your miscarriage did they do a D&C? I ask because sometimes that can cause fertility problems later. I doubt that is the problem but it is something for you to look into to figure out what is going on. If you are looking to go a natural route, I suggest finding a naturopathic doctor who can order you a series of saliva hormone tests to see what your hormone levels are throughout your cycle. You may be too low on progesterone during the time you need it most. I have learned that women with low progesterone after ovulation tend to 1-have a hard time getting pregnant and/or 2-have a hard time staying pregnant (if they are low in progesterone during pregnancy as well)

You can order saliva tests yourself but reading the results is tricky so you would have to find someone to break it down for you which is why I suggested trying to find a naturopathic doc. I know that is easy to say but difficult to find depending on where you live. If you need to order the tests yourself I do know someone who will explain your results to you on the internet - he does this out of the kindness of his heart, no fee. I can refer you to him if that is the route you would like to take.

I wound up supplementing progesterone to get pregnant this time. Most often that is what is needed but I always suggest getting tests done first to be sure.

Hi C.! I know your pain..the wondering what is wrong with me!!! I wanted to give you hope and tell you to relax! My husband and I conceived our first child on our own, but have had trouble conceiving again. I've had my progesterone levels checked every cycle as well as ultrasounds to make sure my eggs were maturing and leaving my ovaries and making into my uterus. At first they were not. Have you had your progesterone levels checked? Have they made sure your tubes aren't blocked? Have you considered, if possible, a different doctor? I've been on clomid and taken steps to remove as much stress from my life (haha...is that possible?) Sometimes it helps to take a month or two 'off' and not 'try'.

As far as giving you hope... I just found out a week ago today that we are expecting :) There is hope!!! Don't give up and don't forget to pray.

How is your stress level??? I had my second child 31/2 years after my first, but we had tried previously about a year before and I didn't get pregnant, BUT I was also really stressed out, so much so I had a panic attack while driving to my doctor's office. I went on Zoloft for a year and then after weaning myself off, and doing other things to help with my stress levels, I was able to get pregnant. Good Luck!

C. I'm sorry for your loss. I had 2 miscarriages and am now 41 wks pregnant. My advice is don't stress about getting pregnant. Me and my husband after our first miscarriage it was 2 yrs almost exactly and we got pregnant again, unfortunately we had another miscarriage and 6 months later were pregnant again and this pregnancy has been successful. BUt what we learned was when we stopped trying and just enjoyed the life we have together we got pregnant. When we stressed over trying to get pregnant we couldn't. So enjoy the life you have and know God has a plan and when the time is right he will bless you with another child.

Hi C.,

I have a friend who had been trying for 6+ years when she tried a combination of accupuncture and a chiropractor. She was pregnant within 6 months. Can't say that it would work for everyone but she swears by it. BTW, she had baby number 2 two years later the same way. She, too, had unknown fertility issues.

Good luck.

I feel your pain. I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, who was conceived on our honeymoon! We waited until she was 3 to try again (for financial reasons). Six months later, I discovered that I had severe endometriosis, which is causing infertility. My doctor wanted to put me on Clomid and try IUI, but I am too scared to have multiple births. We can't afford twins, and I have too many medical problems to take care of 2 babies at a time. Also, my age (40) is a factor in increasing the odds of having twins. I am trying to accept the fact that I will probably never have another baby, but it is hard. I am grateful that I have one healthy, beautiful daughter, and she is thriving being an only child! Just pray that God's will be done. If HE wants you to have more children, it will happen. Good luck!

We tried for 5 years. Everyone tells you to relax and let go of stressing, but that does not work! No matter what you do, when you want a baby and can't have one you will stress about it! But, it is all in God's time and looking back I see that now. After doing clomid and having progesterone levels checked We did the 1st IUI and nothing worked. So I got accupuncture then did the 2nd IUI and it worked! Twins! And your doctor should be checking your progesterone if you are having IUI done. So I think a combination of those things worked for me. The accupuncturist will let you know what natural supplements you should take. Good luck!
