We make a trip to the snow once a year. I find it costs more for the outfits than the cabin. Does anyone have a good source for used snow/ski clothes? Childrens ages are 5, 8, 12 and are all girls.
It was so nice to see a response. I really didn't expect to see one. I received several great shops to try and many words of encouragement. It was uplifing and suprising. Thanks everyone. A little goes a long way.
Are you too proud to buy at the Salvation Army, Garage sales
or the Good Will? Most of those children's clothes are barely used! Just launder them before using. Recycling is a GOOD THING! Then recycle them again!

I have two boys(3 & 8)and I swear all I do is spin my wheels all day long. I never seem to get caught up. Don't even play with them as much as I would like to. It must come down to being organized, no? I would like to be....
I have thought about having a 3rd, perhaps you want to talk me out of it?!
Ok, I had great luck at "Small Fry", a consignment store in Danville. Got a snow bib, snow boots and a great jacket - all matching and just like new for $52 for my 8 year old.
Now, do you know of a good cabin to rent?

I'm not sure where you live, but there's a great 2nd hand store in Berkeley called Grove Street Kids. I was just in there last week, and saw lots of snow items, as they haven't put their summer stuff out yet. Thrift stores are a good source, also.
check all the thrift stores in your area and if all else fails there are some great thrift stores in truckee-leave time and try to borrow from friends-Liza
Hit Target (snow pants or snow overalls pretty reasonably priced, they even carry down jackets). Also, I used the thermal pjs for underneath. Try all the local resale stores (Goodwill and Salvation Army don't usually have this stuff, so you need to his the smaller ones). Ask friends to borrow, see if you can put up a flyer at school.
My mom has had great success at her local Goodwill in northern Michigan (Our trip to the snow tends to be there.). I'm not sure how much you'd find here in SF, but all the clothes kids are using at Tahoe have got to be going somewhere!
There is a thrift store called Dress Best for Less in Piedmont--not the one on Piedmont Ave. It is across from Piedmont High School. I find that it is a great place for snow clothes, warm jackets etc in good condition and unbeatable prices... I bought snow bibs and shoes for $3/- for my kids. Check it out!
look for thrift stores the next time you are in a ski town...we found a beautiful, warm coat size 3T for $1 at a church thrift shop in a ski town...North Conway, NH, though I'm sure similar things exist in California...
There's a place in San Bruno, called Sierra Ski Shop that rents outfits. If not, check out the thrift stores or even Target. Best of luck.
Try your local thrift stores. We had great success and found some practically new items and saved lots of money that way.

I always head to Target or look to see if Sports Authority is having a good sale, they do sometime. You can also look in 2nd hand stores, or ask around school because there are
probably many people in the same boat. I know I am, I have 2 boys and I always pass them down to my younger one, and then find out from friends if they need them.

I got great snow pants/boots/coat for my son from Hannah's on Solano, in N. Berkeley/Albany. It is, of course, the luck of the draw what they'll have at any given moment, but I've always found what I need there.

There is a great little store on courtland in bernal heights right opposite good life. they sell gently used clothes.I found amazing snow jackets for kids for 10 and under. worth a try
