I have a 4 year old that has started 4k this year. I am wanting to help her excel in school by finding some things online to help her read and write. Does anyone know of a website that I can go to, to find maybe some writing pages so she can learn to write and read? She is very excited about school but she really wants to learn this stuff. Our family is on a very tight and strict budget so any information would be great. Thank you.....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone for the great websites that you have offered me. I have sat down and printed a lot of things for my daughter and I to work on together. I don't want my daughter's learning to be all up to her teacher. I want in all the fun too. I will keep you up to date on our progress. Thanks again!!!

DLTK's is an awesome site that I have been using for 3 years. My son is now in Kindergarten. Education is so important and it should not only be left up to the teachers. Good Luck!

My son is also in 4 k and has already learned how to write his name, remember his lunch numbers and alot more, he hasent learned to read yet but were working on that now. I usally just sit down with him after school and practice with him and show him how to do those things....its fun and its free.

My son's 4K teacher sent us to www.handwritingworksheets.com and there is also www.writingwizard.com where you can type in your own words and customize the sheets for her to practice on. For example we did our son's name and was able to make them all in dots so he could trace and learn and then left the last lines blank so he could try it by himself.
Hope this helps C.!

My son has just started 1st grade in public school, but was in a private based 4k and 5k. His teachers recommended a website called starfall.com for games and such for this age. It's really cute and fun so check it out. Also we bought words made by POST-IT ( just like the sticky note pads) that you can put on a wall or refrigerator for visual memorization. You can make words on postcards also and put them all over the house. Like the word DOOR placed on the door, HOT on the stove, UP high on the wall, DOWN lower to the floor and CHAIR on a kitchen chair. My oldest son learned to read by phonics and took longer but my middle son learned to read much better with the visual memorization. In school they call these SIGHT words or LIGHTNING words. I also taught my son to make words like HOP, POP, TOP, BOP, and CHOP. Then we would move on to WAY, SAY, PAY and PLAY. I use the website superkids.com for math pages for my step-daughter but I'm not sure what level this begins at so check them out. I hope this helps and I think it's wonderful that she's anxious to learn.. that must be a girl thing because my boys really could care less at times. Have a blessed day, T.

starfall.com

These are two that I know of off the top of my head. I am not sure if they sharge for membership or not. I do not think that starfall does.

You can also look at noggin.com, and nickjr.com. They sometimes have educational sheets for printing out.

Also, I am not sure if you leave near a Dollar Tree, but sometimes they have educational materials for $1 each. I bought several for my oldest son-6 years- as well as my youngest two-ages 3 and 1.

You can also make quick and easy flash cards with note cards. we made front and back cards of opposites. You know, Big on one side and little on the other. It was a lot of fun; espicially if you let them help you make some of them!!

I wish you the best. Good Luck and heppy educating!!!!
