Hi All - I am looking to get what i think is called solar nails - or pink/white nails. I have never had artificial nails. My real nails are just not what they used to be and keeping up with two young boys and washing dishes etc. all the time i just can't get them to grow nicely. So, i would like to know of a nice, clean, english speaking salon that i can go to in or near Allen. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Perfect Nails in Coppell is wonderful!!! My mom, my daughter and I, as well as many of our friends, have gone there for years. :)

I have been to several over the years and will say the nail salon at alma/hedgecoxe, next to Tom Thumb 'The Nail Club' is professional and clean.I wold have to agree with the other moms in saying it is so not worth it though. First it isn't that cheap, $35 or so for first set and $20 or so for fills you have to get every three weeks, then in a few months another new set. Second it isn't convienient having to sit for an hour twice a month and get a sitter;spending free time listening to broken english or loud phone calls. Third they don't stay looking nice. They always seem so pretty on other people but you will notice how soon they get hard to clean on your own hands. I think they are nice but just wanted you to be aware of those few things. Also, the nail techs never wear gloves as they hold each client's hand;and most importantly...it hurts if you break one and have to have it fixed. Just my Two Cents- T.

If you have never had artificial nails why start now?! Try getting manicures once or twice a month and use a product called nailtek. It is a clear polish that really keeps your nails from breaking. Nice natural nails are so much more hygenic and look much classier than the fake nails.

I just found a wonderful place off McDermitt west of 75. It's called Cindy's Nails and Lisa is the owner. I like my solar nails looking extremely natural and I like the white (tip part) to be exactly even and not to thick...in other words, I'm PICKY!! Ask for "Hannah" if you need a pedicure.

I used to get my nails done all the time, but when I had kids and had to start doing all the things that you named, it became a waste of my time and money. If I may suggest something... I now go to WAL-Mart and buy glue on nails. They are pretty, they are cheap and I can wear them when I am going somewhere and then flip them off when I need to be nail free. No one can tell the difference and everyone thinks I get them done professionally.

There is a great salon located at McDermott and Custer in the Kohl's Shopping Center at 2300 McDermott. The salon is called Nail Design and their phone number is ###-###-####. I have a good friend and my mother go there for white/pink nails. The staff is friendly and the shop is clean.

Hi K.:

Just a note about solar nails. I wore the solar nails during my job search. Although Solar Nails are very pretty and professional looking, I would stay clear of having them. Solar nails does not allow your nails to breathe, therefore, it creates a "weakened nail".

I asked the salon how solar nails affects your real nails and their comment was, "as long as you do not get a fungus, you will be fine". Unfortunately, the truth was not revealed on the long term damage solar nails causes.

Biosil is a supplement that can be taken and it will enhance and strengthen the growth of your nails. It can be purchased through online sources or whole foods market.

I hope this helps. (You do want to ask up front how they sterilize their supplies and if it is done after each client).

There is a product you can use, and can be found at walmart, its green liquid you put on your nails once a day called 5 to 7 day growth by NutraNail, it actually works very well. As far as a Salon in Allen, I have no idea. Artificial nails pretty much ruined my real nails after only wearing them for six months and it took me three months of using Nutra to get them back to normal.

My girlfriend swears by the lady who works in the Dr. Care office (the old hallmark). She's a former nurse and she's very clean. She opens up new tools for each client. Good luck :)
