Looking to Donate a New Carseat

Hello, I just bought an infant car seat online (Graco SnugRide - SuperSaurus) and after using it just once I decided that the car seat is not the one that I want. I'd love for the seat to go to a family in need. Does anyone know of a charity that accepts this type of donation?

What can I do next?

The Santa Clara County Foster Care program could always use a car seat, New Creation Home (www.newcreationhome.org) works with teen moms in East Palo Alto and loves new-ish donated baby items, and the Pregnancy Care Center in Mountain View has folks on waiting lists for car seats and would happy to have yours to give. Hope that helps :).

I would suggest checking with local hospitals. Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose has a wonderful NICU ACCESS program to help families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by giving them food, gas vouchers, hotel stays, rides to the hospital, etc. I'm sure they would love to accept a car seat to be given to a family in need. Anyway, it's nice of you to do that!

The idea of the women's shelter or advocacy group is great. For other items that you might want to give away there's a website called www.freecycle.com. There you can give away almost anything. It you can donate extra baby clothes or things that your children may outgrow.

Child Advocacy of Silicon Valley. You can find out what they do by going to www.cadvocates.org and clicking on About. You can contact them at ###-###-####. The advocates of small children are always in need of a car seat.

Thanks,

Call your local police department and ask where the nearest family/womens' shelter is.
