Hi Moms,

We are thinking about adopting a 9 month old english bulldog but unfortunately first he needs a surgery on his tail (they have cork screw tails and its turned up going back inside him, instead of sticking out)..... I was going to a vet in Boca with my previous dog (unfortunately he passed away last October) but he's a little expensive for us...We got quoted a OUTRAGEOUS price from another vet in Boca (3k) and I wanted to see what other vets you all recommend.... I'm getting estimates right now for the surgery and will make my decision as to whether or not we can afford to adopt him with the surgery he needs done on his tail... Also, do you all recommend pet insurance on dogs? Which company? Does it cover "major" surgeries or do they consider everything preexisting like health insurance on people?
I know bulldogs are "high maintenance" but my husband LOVESSSSSSSS bulldogs....
Thanks moms!!!

Dear Christy,

I live in Boca and swear by my vet, Dr. Pablo Ledesma at Quiet Waters Animal Hospital. ###-###-#### located on Powerline b/w Hillsboro and SW 10th.

Dr. Pablo has treated all of our 5 dogs over the last 8 years, from surgeries to emergencies and general care. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else and he's very reasonably priced. He's also a surgeon.

Any questions feel free to call me ###-###-#### or tell him D. Falcone recommended him. I try to refer him whenever I can.

We go to Cole Animal Clinic in Boca. My husband has known Dr. Mike Cole for years, and my mother-in-law worked there for several years, so we trust him and feel he is a great Vet. I don't know how he would compare to others for price of surgery, but figured I give you the name anyway. Not sure what to tell you about pet insurance either. My only thought would be that if it's a breed of dog that is prone to ear, eye problems, etc., it may be worth it.

Hi, Kristy!
I don't know much about pet insurances, when I was searching for my puppy about them, I decided to go without insurance. Petsmart has a clinic in store with insurance, but they charge more.

We are going to "Heroes Veterinary Clinic", to Dr. Frances. She is the best! Very knowledgeable, 17 years experience, and much less expensive than other clinics. Let's say if some other clinics will charge $400 or more for all puppy shots, we did for half price. They are located: 5040 NE 13th St, Oakland Park, Fl 33334
phone # ###-###-####
They opened on Saturdays and Sundays! They have Pets hotel also.

If you decided to go to her, tell Dr. Frances, that V. refered you. She is very nice!
Good luck!

Sincerely,
V..

Check with Dr. Armstrong at Best Vet ###-###-####. He is in Boynton beach at congress and Boynton Beach Blvd. We really liked him and felt he was more interested in taking care of the pet than charging high prices. We had some sick animals over the years that had to stay there hospitalized for long periods of time and was never shocked over the bill. Its worth a try to to see what it would cost for the surgery.

Hi Kristy,

I have a 4 mo. old Rottweiler that iv been taking to Banfield pet hospital since we got her and enrolled her in their wellness plan (pet insurance)im not sure which major operations would be covered under there plan but im sure if u went for a consultation they could provide more info. They are great w/ my Sasha and have convenient drop off available if u need to drop them for an apt. and cannot stay. They have a few locations in So.Fl I take her to the one on old Boynton and congress inside of pets mart. I hope the info is helpful, and all goes well for your "maybe soon to be bulldog :)" this is there link http://www.banfield.net/health/owp.asp

Kristy,
I belong to Floresta vet (http://www.florestavet.com/)its right at military and LeChelet. Dr Burns is super nice and is a major animal lover. She has a couple of dogs. A lot of people from my work bring there animals to her. The office is Super nice and they handle the animals with love and care. I bring Casper to them and he is not a nice cat but they handle him where as other vets said I have to put him out for his yearly or drug him and I don't feel comfortable with that. Call them. My brother Steve takes his animals there and my sister. Frank takes Pheobe to Tiffany's vet off of seacrest. Hope this helps. I am excited for you, Jeff and Banyan.
