My 3 yr. old son recently underwent an ABR (Automated Brain Response) hearing test and MRI in which we found out that he already had mild/moderate hearing loss. The MRI showed that he has enlarged endolymphatic sacs which typically are associated with hearing loss that progresses to complete deafness. We have an ENT but don't believe that he is as specialized in the areas that are effecting our son and need to find the BEST ENT we can find to help him. We live in Frisco but are willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the metrolplex to get him the best medical help we can get for him. Please let me know if you have a top notch ENT and better yet if he/she specializes in children with sensorineural hearing loss. Thank you!

I also recommend Dr John McClay at Presby Plano- He also sees kids/operates at Children's Medical Center. I know him as a mom and I know him as a nurse (I work at children's). I completely trust their audiology dept and Dr. McClay has operated on my son. If you are given a choice, and your child has to have surgery, I also recommend the Plano Pediatric Surgery Center. I just interviewed there yesterday- and WOW!! What an awesome facility!!! Good Luck!!!
T., mom of 2- one really great 5 year old girl, and one very "opinionated" 2 year old son :-)

I would highly recommend Dr. Fred Owens. I have a very similar condition and every doctor that I saw referred me to him. He is in the Barnett Building at Baylor Dallas.

I am a deaf education teacher, and I just wanted to respond to this. I just moved to Dallas. I do not know of any ENT doctors just yet...sorry! I do wanted to respond and tell you that you should contact your school district. If they have a deaf ed program, there should be an audiologist on staff. They can point you to a good ENT doctor. Also, I just wanted to add that you should never not do a test for your child just because you don't have the money. Deafness is a serious problem. In order to better a child's language skills (whether it's oral or sign), you need to get a diagnosis ASAP and start working with him in which ever method of language that you use.

Hi S.!

The whole reason I took my sone to an ENT was because of the constant ear infections. He spent 8 month our of 2004 on antibiotics and I told my pediatrician, this was enough. My son also suffered some mild hearing loss at 18 months, but I feel this was all due to the constant ear infections he kept getting. Also you have to be careful, those hearing test are so subjective. They also suggested (the audiologist) an ABR too, but our insurance would not pay for it and we didn't feel the need for it.

Dr. John McClay at the Presby Plano was awesome and took both his adenoids (I made him check those while he was getting tubes put in) and put tubes in his ears at the same time. 1 month later, Matthew was talking and has not had any speech delays.

Dr. John McClay specializes in Pediatric Otolaryngology and works at Children's Medical Center of Dallas& Parkland Health. He has offices at Presby Plano which is where I went to see him. He is awesome and did an awesome job on Matthew.

Thanks!
