Looking for Things to Do with the Kids Besides Theme Parks

I'm fairly new to the Orlando/Oviedo area and am looking for things to do around town with the kids or (without the kids even). Nothing expensive and not a theme park or chucky cheese or anything like that. Maybe a scenic park or a fun place just to walk around, something like that that is unique to this area. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

There is this place called Cranes Roost in Altamonte Springs. It is a park that you walk around a lake and you can feed the fish, ducks, and turtles. My son loves to walk around the lake and find different animals.

We do alot of park visiting on Saturdays and Union Park on 50 and Dean is very nice, with a splash Playground for kids, there is also swimming in the lake. We also go to the book store, Borders on Red Bug for just some extra reading for school, a bit more fun then the library. The Oviedo Mall also has play groups twice a month in the morning, for children your age.

We just went to Lucas Nursery. It's awesome they have a butterfly garden. The girls got to feed them and just sit and watch. It was around $5 to get in and 3 and under are free. So you would just have to pay for yourself. http://www.lukasnursery.com/ check it out, I'm sure your girls would love it :)

There are some great playgrounds - Trotwood is nice, you can feed the ducks and turtles. Lake Downey has a splash pad and a lake for swimming.

I take the kids to the Orlando Science Center and the Sanford zoo a lot. You could also try something like My Gym (http://www.mygymorlando.com/). Oh, and there's Leu Gardens too. I heard that they have a pretty cool storytime and it's a beautiful place to walk around.

Hope this gives you some ideas!

I enjoy a walk around Lake Eola to see all the birds and swans and people walking dogs, it's a beautiful place. Also has a kids playground. I always found parking over on the side by the swan boats.

The Butterfly Encounter at Lukas Nursery is really neat. Make sure to take your camera because you will get lots of photo opps!

Also, Leu Gardens is a nice place to go. Again, lots of photo opps and it's also a great educational trip too without them knowing they are learning!

The Seminole County Environmental Studies Center in Soldiers Creek Park off SR 419. This is a neat place but you may want to wait about a year since your kids are pretty young.

The Central Florida Zoo is a lot of fun too. It's not a big zoo, but they are really working hard to make it a fantastic one! And membership dues are inexpensive and gets you into a lot of other zoos around the country for FREE!
