Looking for the Best Software with Parental Controls

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good computer program for parental control? There are just so many to choose from. I looked at a lot of reviews, and thought I would ask if anyone had a favorite one, or one to steer clear of. I have never purchased/used this type of software and any help would be much appreciated. I do not need this for my home just yet, but my Father does, and he lets the boy next door ( we have known this family for years) use his computer for school work. The family is going through some rough times, and a computer is not something they can afford right now, so my Dad does not mind him using it, we just want to be able to monitor any bad behavior. My Dad trusts the boy, but as much as I care for the boy and want to trust him as well, I think it is wise to invest in something to protect my Dad and the boy. My Father is not too tech savvy, he just plays games and looks at the news and checks his email, so I will need to be able to monitor things from my home or arrange the history to be stored for a few days at a time. I would be grateful for any ideas....
Thank you,
B.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the info..I ordered the snoopstick and will test that out. I liked the features on that even though it costs a bit..plus a yearly fee. I went to the web site and it was very helpful. I love that this is hidden from the online user, and you can view it in real time from another computer, as well as check history. Thank you all for your help though!!

Hello, if you are looking for a Christian based program then noahsnet.com is great! I'm not sure how other programs work but this one filters by opening a new browser for the child and then cannot access anything that is wrong, I think you can change the levels but I know there is a very strong filter. And then you can add or remove websites if you want. There is bible trivia and a lot of fun activities on it. I hope you find what works, God bless!

I was going to say www.k9webprotection.com also. It's very simple to install, it's free and it works! We just installed it a couple of weeks and we have tried to pull "stuff" up to test it and it has blocked everything. I have a 15 year old boy on the computer a lot, so I very much appreciate this program.

Keep in mind that most kids that know about computers know how to delete the history. The program I have heard the most about (good stuff)is Bsafe online and I think you can get it on AFR.net. There should be an accountability feature that sends you an e-mail with the day's history. We recommend people get something like this for their own house for couples to be accountable to each other if a man has had trouble viewing improper sites before or thinks he might.
A lot of people will throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak by just not having internet when they really just need to be wise about the uses of it.
I hope you find what you need. PLEASE let us all know what you get and how you like it as I am looking into the same thing when we get 2 computers.
Thanks,
R.

You are wise to install a filter on your dad's computer. Even though the boy is "nice", he is still a boy and will be tempted to go where he doesn't need to go. We have used several filters over the past several years and I really like K9 Web Protection. It is a free download. http://www.k9webprotection.com/ You can customize it to what ever protection setting you need. You can also go back later and look at the websites that the teen has visited. (Cool feature)
I also use a program called "Snoop Stick". I'm not sure if this is really what you need, but I absolutely love it! If my teen is upstairs on his computer, I can be at my computer and see exactly what he is doing and where he is in real time. www.snoopstick.com It cost $60 but I am able to monitor up to 3 computers with that. I have cut/pasted the description from thier website.
Monitor real-time activity
View recorded activity from any day
View instant messages
Record websites visited
Instant and recorded screen captures
Records all incoming and outgoing e-mail activity
Restrict activity by name or type of program
Restrict activity by date and time
Restrict access to websites
Disable users Internet access if desired
Completely invisible to user
Automatically updated in background

I wish you luck. As much as I love computers, I feel like we let the devil himself in through the front door everytime our teens get online. It is so hard to keep one step ahead of these kids.
