Looking for SUMMER FUN in the Fort Worth Area!

Hi! I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old and I'm looking for fun things to do to keep us busy this summer. (The cheaper the better!) We already go to the Zoo on one Wednesday per month and I found out about a free Spray Park today. But, does anyone else have any ideas for fun outings? We live in North Fort Worth, almost to Keller, but will travel for anything extra fun... My daughter loves to Swim and we'd especially love any advice about an affordable place to enjoy the water, too.... THANKS MAMASOURCE MOMS!

Hi K.! We passed a place called Sandy Lake Amusement Park in Carrollton yesterday. The website address is http://www.sandylake.com/sandylake.html. We have not been there but are planning on maybe going today.

Hi Karen,
For your 4 year old, for four days in July, there is an acting camp located at Studio One Dance Center off of Basswood. www.kidstage.net is the website. The purpose of the program is to promote self confidence, reading skills, team work through theatre activities and performance. At the end of the camp, the kids will perform in an acting showcase for the parents. I know the owner will work with you on the class fee if it is to much! Have fun!

It sounds like you live pretty close Park Glen. If you do, we have a mom's club and there is always at least 3 activities a week in the newsletter. There are also several playgroups to choose from. If you are interested, call me at ###-###-####.

K.,

NRH2O in North Richland Hills is pretty inexpensive. There is a kids splashatory area and as of last summer they were building more new things. Their season passess are usually cheaper than paying on a 1 by 1 basis.

Hi. I've been thinking the same thing and here are some things I've found:
1) story time at the library - free and in the A/C!
2) Starplex Cinema in Irving has very cheap movies - right now they're showin Horton hears a Who. It is 1.25 before 6pm, 1.75 after 6pm, and only 50 cents on Tuesdays
3) Studio Movie Grill has movies all summer long at 11am M-Th for $1 for kids and $2 for adults. They are all kid movies like Sponge Bob and Shrek
4) Open gym time at a local Gymnastics studio

Hope that helps some.

We enjoy going to the Hurst water parks. They open at 12:00 or 12:30 I believe weekdays and it is only $4 for non Hurst residents to get in. You can bring in your own food or they have food available. There are 2 different locations one is in Chisolm Park off of Hurstview and the other is by the Hurst Rec. Center off of Pipeline.

Where is the free Spray Park?

Thanks!

I agree with Burger's Lake! Big fun! We bring food and grill out there and picnic under the trees and swim all day. They have a website burgerslake.com (I think).

Also in downtown Ft. Worth there is the Amon Carter museum and the Kimball museum (art museums) with free exhibits and beatiful park/sculpture garden and fountain for picnics and running around. The Modern art museum is right next to them and has a huge iron sculpture in front of it that you can walk through and it makes the most terrific echos. My 5 and 2 year olds can spend a lot of time just making noise in there. Often there are free activities on the weekends for kids in the Kimball. Oh, and the Botanic Gardens in Ft Worth are awsome! They are free and beautiful.Great for picnics. If you want to go into the Japanese garden it is $3 (I think) under 4 is free. There is a large pond with lots of fish to feed. (fish food is .25)

Joe Pool lake in Grand Prairie is a bit of a drive for you but a great place, here in the city, where you can enjoy the outdoors and swim. Very pretty, lots of places to hike and enjoy nature. Nice sandy beach on the lake for swimming and a playground.

I'm in Keller, and last year we did:
Mon and Fri (10 or 10:30) free Toddler Time story at Barnes and Noble in Southlake
Tues is free story time at Keller Library (lots of libraries do that)
Swim lessons and kindermusik at Keller Pointe

He was too young last year (maybe still this year too), but the United Artist theater at Fossil Creek does free kids movies, but I can't remember the days. You can probably check it out online.

This is a fun indoor activity for FREE. It is the playscape at Glenview Baptist church. It is a huge indoor treehouse with slides. They also have an area for little ones to play. It is off 820 NE of Downtown.

Burger's Lake is AWESOME. It is near Carswell AFB. We took my daughter last Fri. It is cheap $12 per adult and free for kids 6 and under. It is good for both young kids and older ones as well as adults. There is a trapeze, high dives, low dives and big and small slides. There is a lot of shallow water for the little ones and plenty of lifeguards. There is also a no alcohol policy so it is very kid friendly. They have a snack bar but you can also bring a picnic. Very economical and way more fun than the water park.

Last year we really enjoyed going to the Saginaw Aquatic Center. If you live in Saginaw and bring a water bill there is a discount. It is still very cheap even if you don't have a bill. They also have "season passes". There are plenty of lifeguards and lots to do for your age children. You can look it up online.

During the summer, the local movie theaters usually have a free family movie a couple times a week. Check with the theaters for a summer movie list and showtimes (Usually 9 or 10 am).
