Looking for "Rash" Advice

I saw my doctor yesturday and he said the rash on my belly (only there no where else) is called "PUP" (it stands for some great big words). He said that it is only due to hormones and it will go away as soon as I deliver. Well, that is ten weeks. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and if so, how did you find relief. He said that he can give me a perscription but I just really don't want to medicate if I can find something else that works. (no, it is not contagious or harmful to me or anyone else, but it does itch).
Thank you all so much.

What can I do next?

I used Hydrocortisone cream and oatmeal baths. I would not recommend putting tea tree oil directly on you skin unless it's in on oil or in the bath. Essential oils can be h*** o* you skin.

BTW tea tree is great for after the bith (in the bath tub - 4 or 5 drops) to help stitches heal.

Hi A. - My Dr. thought I had pupps, but sent me to a dermotologist that did a bioposy and it came back as hives, but the rash and itchiness stayed until a week or so after I delivered. I used alot of creams and lotions that did not really do anything. The Dr. said I could take benadryl
(the pills, not the cream, and won't affect baby). That helped tremendously and I was able to get some sleep (i had been waking myself up itching!) so if you cannot find another(non medicated) solution then ask your Dr. if Benadryl is ok take.

Hi A.!

If you are looking to take something that should take away the rash and that is not medication, there is an awesome product out there called OPC3. It does wonders for rashes/allergies and it is all natural. Of course, I would recommend that you take some information to your doctor first to see if he says it's OK for you to take. If you want more info, please let me know.

A., I have been pregnant 2 times and also have experience with eczema, but you shared you were with party lite...so this is waht I will share, I help people with skin issues due to my own personal experience with them myself, my home based business is with Daisy Blue Naturals and there are several good options that could help you....(Our is the real deal)shea butter or the vitamin e oil, purely lotion, also washing with the baby/calendula soap...and yes TEA TREE OIL too which is in th line as well....the itching will be worse if you use soaps with sodium laurel sulphates, glycols and mineral oils in them..which so many lotions and soaps have.. Daisy Blue Naturals has none of these and has helped many people including my wee one's (now 2) delicate, sensitive skin. I know you understand the home business aspect, so thanks for taking a look on my site and call if you have any qquestions www.3623.daisybluenaturals.com Product lable reading is the key...power is knowledge!

So sorry to hear you have PUPPP. It drove me crazy during my pregnancy with my son. I'm now pregnant again and praying I don't have a repeat attack. In addition to what others have already mentioned (cold compressed, Gold Bond, light clothing) I also found some relief taking cool showers and applying a paste of baking soda/water. Once the paste dries though you may find you're even itchier until it's washed off. I also used a lotion called Sarna which I read about on the web and purchased at Walgreens. It worked for a while but eventually stopped having an effect on me. The rash got a ton better once the baby was born and faded completely after about a week. I hope it stays on your belly and doesn't spread all over the way mine did!! Good luck.

I know that there are lotions out there that would help with that..... I would also maybe try the palmer's cocoa butter lotion cause I didn't have rash my skin was very sensitive when I was pregnant with my son. It is most commonly used for stretch marks but it also helps with other things and i believe that they make different combinations of minerals and stuff..... Give it a try.... what's the worst that can happen? It's not in anyway harmful to the baby..... O and congrads on your first girl.... they are harder than buys but a whole lot more fun..... E.

I had PUPPs, too, and, not to freak you out, but they didn't immediately go away when I delivered, but they stopped itching, so that was good! I tried a bunch of stuff and found that Gold Bond Medicated was one of the few things that would help. It also worked on the hemorroids I got after both of my kids were born. You might want to check with your doc, but, mine said the lotion was fine and wouldn't hurt the baby.

I also had "PUP" rash with my first pregnancy, luckily not with my 2nd, and I did not wanted to take a perscription either. The thing that really helped my was rubbing tea tree oil on my belly. My rash did go away before my delivery, and the tea tree oil helped a lot with the itching. You can find it at any health store, like GNC, just make sure you get the 100% tea tree oil. Good luck!

I had PUPPS with my first pregnancy. It was NOT pleasant! Luckily, I was much closer to delivery than you are. Some things that helped were:

Oatmeal baths
COOL compresses -- whenever I got warm, I was miserable. So cool baths, cool rags, ice packs on my hands
As little clothing as you can get away with - nothing tight or binding - that seemed to make it worse

I also had the rash on my hands and feet. Those were the worst places! You can take Prednisone, and for some people that works - it didn't for me. Benadryl can also help, but I'm intolerant to Benadryl. It is, however, completely save in pregnancy.

Good luck and hang in there.

hi A.-
i've had several clients with PUPPS and have experienced intense itching myself and know how challenging it can be.
The best relief is from cold. Try freezing damp washclothes and then laying them over your belly.
Rub your belly with plain yogurt and let it dry.
Decrease citrus and increase essential fatty acids- flaxseed oil, oatmeal, fatty fishes, etc...
If you are open to alternatives to meds. in the form of supplements you could try dandelion root pills- 3X daily (tones liver)or dandelion root tincture- 3 X daily
Accupuncture can also be effective.
Is the itching solely on your belly? Did the rash come before the itching or in response to itching. Choleostasis is another pregnancy complication -more severe- that sometimes get diagnosed as PUPPS but is different. It can be detected with a blood test.
there are support groups on line for moms who have PUPPS. if you search for PUPPS you will probably find it. they may have more ideas for you. good luck and congratulations! ~~W.
