Hi I am looking for a preschool for my son to go to in the fall. Does anyone have a preschool that they really love in the Beaverton area? Or one that you really didn't like. He will be 4 in November and I know I'm am behind on finding some where for him to go. Thanks for your help.

My son (3) and my daughter (1 & 1/2) both go to Children's Time Preschool off Walker and 185th and have been going there since 2006. It is a great school, great prices, great teachers and a wonderful center. Let me know if you want more info!

Here's another option for you in the Bethany area (nr Kaiser x Laidlaw). It is called Country Kids Learning Center. It is absolutely terrific. My daughter LOVES going to school there and, even though she is currently going 2 days a week (she's 3.5 when she started this fall), she asks me every day "Mommy is today a school day?" She just loves the teachers and her friends there.

Here is what stands out for me: Very low student-teacher ratio and this is combined with very high quality teaching staff. They are so in-tune to the kids and warm. Also, a great curriculum/daily schedule (you can see it in detail on line). There is a great sense of community at this school and the teachers are really encouraging curiosity, enjoyment of learning, creativity, responsibility, and self-esteem. I was one of those moms that looked and looked, toured, interviewed a whole gamut of programs including the big privates and a number of highly reputed Montessori programs. We even ended up trying one program when she was younger and decided it wasn't a good fit for us due to under-impressive teacher quality, even though so many other moms had spoken so highly of it.

So with that background, I would highly recommend this program. The only thing about this school is that the school is in a home and that can turn some people off. Before I toured and met with the teachers this made me very hesitant. But I was totally surprised by what I found there. It is not what you would call a typical "in-home" program because the school area/"classrooms" are clearly separate from the residence. Separate entry, dedicated spaces, very well appointed with items, toys, furnishings you see in some of the top schools (or hope you would). The curriculum is very good and has several options in terms of 2, 3 or 5 day programs, morning only, 2/3 day or full day with after-school care. Another thing I really liked about the program is that the children range from 3-5 years old, so there is diversity of age as well bringing more to each child at the school.

Enough of that. You can see I really am pleased with this program, but check it out for yourself. www.countrykids.info.

Is it insensitive to suggest a Christian preschool if I don't know your faith prefreence? I don't know. You didn't mention either way and I'm assuming you are just looking for a good school.

My daughter is just finishing up her preschool year at Beaverton Christian and we have loved it (both of us). It's a VERY professionally run school that is so positive and supportive of the kids. It's large with 3 classes in the mornings and afternoons for each age group, but I really believe that benefits the kids and school. It is very well structured and I have been so impressed with the balance of curriculum/play/art/music. I found that it was very cost effective as well.

Because your son will be 4 in November, he would be in one of the "3's" classes as the age cut off follows the public school system of August 31.

Anyhow, I highly reccommend it. =)

Hi Dayla,

I worked at KinderCare for 4 months and I did not like it. It may be different by what location you use but the one I would suggest you do not take your son to is the one on 185th and West Union. Management is not involve in teaching their teachers what it is that they need to do to teach the kids. Sadly the kids are the ones that suffer.

I have my son in a Home Preschool called Bright Start Care. I worked for her 3 years ago and she is good with the kids. Since there is only one teacher the kids get comfortable only seeing her and learning from her.

Good luck.

If you like co operative preschools, check out Creative Childrens Center. It is a great school! They are a constructivist play based school and do a lot of amazing art and science. They have a website..creativechildrenscenter.com and the phone number is ###-###-####. It is located off of 185th, near johnson! I worked there for 8 years and know my daughter attend the mixed age class. 3-5 year olds. They have a varied schedule so it works out for a lot of different schedules. Good luck!

We loved Prince of Peace Preschool across from Sunset highschool. All of the teachers were great. We were sad when we moved to Montana because our younger son won't get to attend there. Good luck on your search.

Hi, Dayla! I own a Christian Montessori school in Aloha called Little Lambs, Too. I would love to talk with you about our program if you're interested. I just found out that I have one opening for fall because a family has to make a move. Our schedule is Monday - Thursday, 8:30 - noon. If that would work for you, feel free to call and I can answer any questions you have and set up a time for you to come visit. Take care!

Hello Dayla:

Not sure where in Beaverton you, but my daughter has been attending Happy Hollow Children's center since she was 4 and is now going on 9. She loves it there and so do I. The teachers and curriculum is outstanding. They are also eco-friendly, if that matters to you with a huge organic garden that the kids help take care of and eat the produce. The owners name is Laura and she is wonderful. http://www.happy-hollow.net/

Good luck in your search.
