Looking for Pediatrician That Will Split the MMR Vaccine

We are very fortunate to have Bastyr University so close to us, they are located in Kenmore. They are a teaching facilty focused on alternative and natropathic medicine. They have ND's there that I bet more then anything would be able to help you. Give them a call and see what they can do for you! ;-)

Any western medicine pediatric office will give you the same pressure. For my daughter's booster and my son's first round I bought the separate vaccines from Overlake Hospital and then had Totem Lake Pediatric administer them 4 - 6 weeks apart. The bummer is that I had to buy quite a few vaccines because they only came in a 5 or 10 dose quantity _ I forgot the number. Perhaps you can round up some like-minded moms and share the cost. Pediatric Associates stored the vaccines until our rounds were done but they were not happy about it. Unless you go to a naturpathic or homeopathic doctor, the pressure and attitude will exist. FYI, when I recently looked at the MSDS sheets for the DTap booster it contained formaldihyde and "traces" of thimerisol which the pharmaceutical companies were supposed to remove. That caused my daughter to have autism spectrum issues in the first place. I would hold off as long as you can for the initial vaccines. For booster shots the kids can always take a titers blood test to check their immunity levels.

I can't help you with the MMR, but I would encourage you to change pediatricians.
I have been with a family doctor for my daughters first year and now with a pediatrician closer to our new home(both Seattle) and have not had ANY issues whatsoever with vaccinating on an alternative schedule.
We didn't split the MMR, but denied HepB at birth, started the schedule later and space the vax apart one shot at a time with about a month in between. Neither our doctor nor the nurses have questioned this or tried to encourage us to stick to the AMA schedule.
There are a lot of very open minded pediatricians in the area,you should not have too much trouble finding one - you might want to look into going with an ND...

Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth! I have been having the same problem lately! Ever since I left Group Health, I have found it very difficult to find a doctor who will not pressure a person to stick with the AMA vaccine schedule and split up the MMR vaccine. Have you read Dr. Sears's book "The Vaccine Book"? You can also go online to get a list of "vaccine-friendly" doctors by state. I called every one and the only one that seems to have separate MMR components is Mother and Child Natural Medicine in Woodinville. We will go there next week. It is untrue that in the state of WA they will not split the MMR vaccine. Our pediatrician (located in Seattle) has respected all alternative vaccination choices we have made. The downside is that the pharmaceutical company is no longer splitting out the vaccines. We have been on a waiting list for Mumps for a while and finally opted to just do the MMR instead of vaccinating individually for Measles and Rubella (the vaccinations that were in stock) only to have to do the MMR in order to get Mumps protection. In that scenario our son would be getting double dosed an already controversial vaccine. You should check out the Dr. Sears site (authorof the Vaccine Book). It discusses how the pharmaceutical companies are no longer producing the individual vaccines and are just offering the end of their stock. This isn't the exact link http://www.askdrsears.com/

To be frank - I've had several very bad experiences at Pediatric Associates and will never, ever, ever go back there again. They played the same dumb card with me about splitting up vaccinations, when they know darn well it's 100% possible and legal. To note, despite my strong feelings towards them, I'm not an over-the-top, super sensitive, overbearing mom or anything; just a typical mom who continued to trust her oldest child in the care of PA, and was completely baffled and disappointed by the things that happened during that time. (Many long stories.)

Moving on to a more productive response ;o), I suggest seeing a Naturopath doctor. Not only do they usually have all possible split vaccinations available, but they're just better doctors to begin with. They do all of the same things in the Well Baby/Well Child appointments, and in general health care the are far superior doctors (in my opinion). They schedule you for a reasonable amount of time with the doctor (instead of the 10 minute intervals that you usually have to wait 15 - 20 minutes after your appointment "starts" to even get to), so you can have real conversations and actually discuss things with the doctor who's REALLY listening. Then, they help you find a real solution for your ailment rather than just labeling with some generic disorder or writing a prescription for medication which may or may not help, when your body needs to be healed or simply rebalanced, not drugged. Again, I know I'm coming across a bit strong here, but in my mind, this is simply the sad truth (in the almost pointlessness or western medicine doctors).

Maybe you can just look at her website to get a feel for what Naturopath’s are about. I'm sure you can put up another posting here to ask for recommendations for a Naturopath in or closer to Bellevue. You can probably also find a listing of local Naturopath's on Bastyr's website.

Also, I don’t know about other places, though at my Naturopath, the wait for the split MMR vaccines is about 1 month, maybe slightly longer.

I am POSITIVE you will get names and clinics --- from this savvy group of Moms ( I'm a grandma and don't have the specific knowledge to share- but others will) You might call Childrens' Hospital - it's a very special facility with lots of local clinics and very family friendly.

IT IS YOUR CHOICE. The STATE doesn't administer vaccines- clinics and doctors do - and they do so with the permission of PARENTS.

I'll tell you a story - from 35 years ago - I had one precious baby girl ( the first of my 3) -- she was breastfed which was rather unusual back then - sadly. She was 9 months old - and I was badly injured in an auto crash- she --- God be praised --- was unhurt, as was her Dad.
So - I was in the hospital 3 days- the first morning - the doctor who'd done my surgery came in with a syringe and I asked ''what is that?" He said it was to dry up my milk as I would ''never'' be able to resume nursing. I said ''' no, I don't want that--- if my milk dries up by itself - I don't need it - and if it doesn't I certainly CAN resume nursing ( didn't need any medications or pain stuff that would harm her) --. He was really ticked and said ''' that will never work you need this SHOT''' I said '' no, I don't want it - take it away''. He was furious- but took it away- ( which he really had no choice about) --- my baby was able to nurse for another six months --.

Stand your ground.

The state has nothing to do with it - However, I think Rosa (below) might be right. I talked to my doctor about splitting the MMR and she told me there was a long wait list for two of them (mumps and measles if I recall correctly). You might want to check into it - I'd love to hear back :)

Wow, I agree with the poster who said change doctors! Also agree with the person who encouraged you to look into naturopathic doctors. I am one (a naturopathic doctor), and it's true that naturopaths spend far more time with their patients, on average. I'll give you some names to try. I'm in Seattle, and I take my own son to Dr. Tracy McDaniel, ND, though she's over here in the U-district area. Dr. McDaniel had the tetanus-only vaccine on hand in her office. Can't say specifically about splitting up the MMR, as to what she keeps on hand, but considering the split on the DTaP, it's worth calling to find out. The same would be true of Dr. Sheila Kingsbury, ND, on the east side, i.e., that she'll definitely be respectful of your decisions on vaccination, and is likely to have separated vaccines either on hand, or available to order. Both of these doctors are naturopathic pediatricians. If you see either of them, tell them D. E. sent you. I know of (but less well) at least 2 other NDs that specialize in pediatrics (though I think they're over here in Seattle), so if for some reason neither of those 2 work for you, let me know, and I'll give you more names.

If I were set up to do vaccines, I'd help you myself! But best wishes to you - either of those ladies are fantastic doctors and you will be well served. And when your child(ren) go to school, don't believe the letters you get from the school district saying that they'll hold your child out of school unless they're "up to date" with vaccinations. In WA state, you thankfully have the right to choose for yourself whether or when your child is vaccinated. You just need to ask the office or the school nurse for the form to sign an exemption. You don't need to cite religious or medical beliefs - a personal belief about vaccinations is sufficient, and there is an option as such on the form.

And Moms, you can get great help from a naturopathic doctor too! Many/most of us work on nutritional education, stress-care (aka mom-care :)), sleep regulation, and much other support mothers need.
