Looking for Occupational Therapy & Speech Therapy

My little girl just turned 2 and her neurologist has recommended an occupational therapy & speech therapy evaluation. She's already in ECI, but it's been six months and although they agree she should have some speech therapy we've yet to hear from them. It's been a waste of 6 months really. Our insurance will pay for private therapy, but I'm not having any luck finding a place to take her. We live in Euless. I've heard of Monkey Mouths in Hurst, but they don't bill insurance and we can't afford to pay for therapy outright. Any suggestions?

I strongly recommend Therapy 2000. They do in-home therapy. I have not used them, but am friends with a manager there and a couple of speech paths. that work there. They absolutely love their company and they love their work. They all seem very dedicated to their jobs.

Our Children's House at Baylor in Grapevine! It shouldnt be too far from you, I drove out there for those two therapies for my son from Grand Prairie for two years.

Sarah and Andrea are AWESOME and so are all the other therapists. I have referred lots of people there and everyone has been very happy.

Unlike Cook's (which I LOVE, except for outpatient rehab) they get you in quick and they do take insurance.

Therapy 2000 is located in Dallas, but they send therapist to you. My son has been in both OT, PT, and ST since he was 9 months old. It took them a long time to staff the PT, but when they did- his therapist is GREAT!!!! They come out to his daycare 2-3 times a week (and they will also come out to the home).

Hello! I live in Euless also and have a 7 year old w/speech and OT delays. I highly recommend "Our Children's House at Baylor", located in the Medical Bldg. on the corner of Lancaster and Ira E Woods, across the street from Baylor-Grapevine.

First, since you are in ECI, I would talk with a Supervisor and see what the hold up is. Sometimes, the therapists have full schedules and you may have to rearrange your schedule or wait a week or so and see if they have a cancellation. We went thru ECI also, however only had to wait a few weeks. I wanted an OT evaluation, however OT wasn't able to fit us in her schedule and our child turned 3 years old. 6 months is excessive, I would let a Supervisor know that you are frustrated. See if that gets you anywhere. It would save you from having to start all over with another therapy company.

Now, we are with Therapy 2000. At first it took a few weeks to get the evluation and the therapist to come out. The Therapist is great and they do come to your home. There is an office here in Fort Worth, where you can get therapist's from Fort Worth. Therapy 2000 does bill thru your insurance, and we pay the co-pay.

Just for Kids Therapy (www.justforkidstherapy.com). They come to our home to see my youngest, who has DS. We have been pleased with their services, and they bill insurance.

Hi, My son has just "aged out" of ECI and we received OT and speech. I can't understand why they are not giving you the services she needs. Is it a hold up on your doctors end??? I do know that Cook's and Baylor have speech and OT it might be worth looking into. I am sorry you are having such a hard time with ECI - I know other people who had problems with them, but we had such a positive experience and wonderful therapists. Good luck.

try the local school district...I know we have had students that were not school age in speech therapy with our speech therapist..I don't know about occupational therapy or not but I would suppose this is offered too if the child is not school age and qualifies. Call your local district...special educ. dept. as they handle this type of care for the children who are not yet in school or at least this is the case in CFBISD.

You say you have insurance...have you thought about calling or using their website to locate therapist under the plan. I know our insurance has a search for specialist such as these. Or if you or your child's father have EAP (employee assistance program) they may be able to assist you as well.

I use to know of a speech group on Forest Lane but honestly I can not think of their name. If I find it ...I will forward their information to you.

I know that the speech teacher at my kids' elementary school worked with younger children that would eventually attend that school. You might check with the elementary school your child will attend to find out their procedure on working with your daughter.

Our daughter saw Sara Simpson for speech and Debbie Metzer for occupational therapy at Cook Children's NE clinic on Mid-Cities and Precinct Line. We love both of them! The whole clinic is wonderful.

Try Therapedia on Davis Blvd in Keller or Cook's Children's on Mid-Cities and Precinct Line Rd. The school will not evaluate her until she is almost 3. Be sure to call the school district a few months before she turns 3 to schedule and evaluation because it's free through them.

Hi M.,
Have you found therapists for your daughter yet? I am an occupational therapist in the Dallas area currently working part-time in one of the school districts. If you still need OT for your daughter, please call me and we will see if we can work something out.
Sincerely,
J.

Try asking your childs doctor. My doctor gave me a whole listing. We go to Our Childrens house at Baylor in grapevine and love them. They also bill insurance. I know they have other locations though, but not sure where. You could also check the special ed PTA of your school district and Im sure they have a directory. My district does.
Keep on ECI for speech. I had the same issue, just like the other services you get from ECI, your child should be evaluated by them for speech asap. It sounds like they are trying to drag their feet on it since when she turns three she will no longer be able to get the services.
Good luck!

My best friend is an occupational therapist who does occasional weekends at The Handwriting Clinic. I believe it deals more with motor skills but I'm sure you could find some great therapists or recommendations through this clinic.
