Looking for Low Cost Summer Activities

My family moved to Kansas a month ago from Iowa. With summer rapidly approaching, I was wondering what activities there are for kids 11,5,3 in the Overland Park area? Any ideas from where to swim to painting classes would be appreciated.

Deanna Rose farm is great for smaller kids it offers horse riding, fishing and others activities. Pepsi ice midwest near Quivira and 135th is nice on hot summer days for ice skating, Paridise park on the MO side is also lots of fun for all ages, the great mall of the plains has an indoor putt putt place, incredible bowl has an arcade, bowling, laser tag, and putt putt. Have fun this summer!

I was recently at the movies and there was a pre-movie ad for free kid movies this summer every Wednesday morning at AMC theaters.

S.,
For fun activities for children in the Kansas City area, you might want to pick up the paperback book, Shifra Stein's "A Kid's Guide to Kansas City." You can also find the web site at www.kckidsguide.com.
Most of the community pools in the Overland Park area are good. There's a nice community center in Mission and one is being built near downtown Overland Park. I think you can join the Prairie Village or Leawood pools for the Summer, even if you live in Overland Park. If you like tennis, you could also swim at Overland Park Racquet Club, where there's a nice pool that doesn't get used too much. You have all kinds of options!

As other moms have said, the Deanna Rose Farmstead is really nice, and the parks in the OP area are great. Our favorites are Antioch Park (Antioch, just south of Shawnee Mission Parkway), South Lake Park (87th St, a few blocks W of Metcalf), Franklin Park (Roe and Somerset), and Leawood City Park (105th & Lee). Leawood City Park also has a VERY cool kiddie pool, and I plan on buying a 5-visit pass this summer so I can take kiddo. My son will be 2 in July--how old are yours? Maybe we can get together. You may certainly respond via my personal email.
