I never dreamed before I had children that I'd want to stay home with them, which is why I went to law school in the first place. Now, I've been out 4 years and I'm working part-time as an attorney. People don't ever think attorneys can work part-time, I'm expected to be constantly available. Basically, I'm working to pay law school loans, but I can't stand it anymore. I'd really like to start something from home, but I can't really practice law out of my home and afford the liability insurance, memberships, and pay someone for childcare to I can attend emergency hearings. I must admit, I probably have it pretty good where I'm working compared to the people that have to work 80 hour weeks to keep their job...I just don't think I'm cut out for the work. It doesn't make me happy at all. I've thought about home based businesses, but a) I don't have the start-up money and b) all of the ones where you don't need alot of start up money sound like scams to me. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

I am on the other side of the coin in my life right now. My kids are grown, and my husband works a lot of hours. I found myself sitting alone at night.

I work in the corporate world and have gotten laid off from my last 3 jobs. The corporate world is a scary place right now.

A year ago I was introduced to the Mary Kay opportunity.

With Mary Kay, as with any home based business, you can work your schedule around your family and life. The difference with Mary Kay is they are the highest paying commission in direct selling business. We have no territories and no quoter's to meet, therefore, we can truly work our business as much or as little as we want.

Feel free to visit my website at www.marykay.com/joyceferreira to learn more about Mary Kay the company, the products and the opportunity.

Please call me with any questions.

Best of luck.

Would you be interested in a different career completely? I know medical transciptionists and coders are always needed and is something you could do from home for an office. I also have seen online classes you can take to become a trascriptionist or coder. From what I understand they get a half way decent wage too. Just a thought. Good luck. : )

I don't know what kind of lawyer you are, but I've heard of some real estate lawyers who team up with estate agents and work their own hours out of their homes.... I've never done it (business major)... but it's an idea???
