Love David Sedaris when I want something funny! When You Are Engulfed in Flames and Me Talk Pretty One Day are two of my faves.

How about books by David Sedaris, Chelsea Handler, Ellen?

If you like baseball, one of the funniest books I've ever read is "Seasons in Hell" by Mike Shropshire.

Yet another vote for David Sedaris. I remember literally laughing out loud while reading "Naked" at lunch one day and another person walked by, saw what I was reading, and said "Isn't that the funniest book you're ever read?!?!" It really was!

I LOVE the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. They are crime mystery/comedy. A bit vulgar sometimes, though, so if that's not your cup of tea, best to steer clear!

Here is another vote for David Sedaris, he is openly and proudly gay, so know that going in and you will laugh until people are staring at you in public (this literally happened to me!) I also like the Chelsea Handler books, but not as cleverly written as Sedaris. S#!t My Dad Says is also hilarious, the show did that book absolutely no justice whatsoever.

For just funny fiction, I love Jennifer Crusie. She writes some very funny female characters, just prepare yourself for some steamy sections (not quite "Shades of Grey" but still steamy). Lorna Lanvik also writes some twisted, funny characters. Her subject matter is sometimes a little heavier, a mix of Jodi Piccoult and Jennifer Weiner.

Happy Reading!

How about Dave Barry?
Also, it has been a few years since it came out. But I remember The Pursuit of Happyness made me laugh out loud several times. Of course there are sad/tragic parts also.

This is a slightly different kind of funny book, but if you enjoy mysteries at all, then try the Janet Evanovich series. "One for the Money," is the first one.

One of my favorite books that I have ever read was called Blood-sucking fiends. It was hilarious! A very witty and funny take on being a vampire. The name of the author escapes me right now, but I'm sure you can find it on Amazon or at the library.

Sounds like you enjoy irreverent so Lamb by Christopher Moore. (Pee my pants funny!) Another vote for David Sedaris or A. Sedaris for that matter. Anything by Tom Robbins but that's more quirky than hilarious.

I agree with the David Sedaris and Jen Lancaster recommendations. Tucker Max is funny if you like his kind of humor - I laughed a ton at the first half and then it just got skeevy in a bad way for me.

Several years ago I came across a nonfiction book about the author's travels to and life in a small island in the S. Pacific. You know how difficult travel and moving can be and to read about it in the words of a talented writer makes me giggle just thinking about it! The book is titled The Sex Lives of Cannibals and the follow up novel is Getting Stoned with the Savages. I highly recommend both.

David Sedaris 2nd, here.
Dave Barry, for sure

Also Lipschtick (forget the author)

And for pure fiction:
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Increasingly inaccurately named trilogy
First several Stephanie Plum mysteries (last several, not so much)

I would agree with David Sedaris. There were some chapters in his books that had me laughing so hard, tears were rolling down my cheeks and I had painful stomach muscles the NEXT DAY. I also like Augusten Burrows (a bit on the stranger side, but very entertaining).

Google Tucker Max. He has a few stories posted on his blog, which i believe is his name followed by dot com. Yep, it is, just checked.

Anyway, if you like the stories he's posted, then you'll find the books hilarious. But risque really isn't the word I'd be looking for - he's pretty raw. The books are just complitions of the stories exactly like what is online.

Dave Barry is funny, so is Ellen DeGeneres. I also love Jill Conner Brown, specifically The Sweet Potato Queens Guide to Raising Children for Fun and Profit, but almost all her books are funny.

It's not for everyone politically, but I really liked Bossypants by Tina Fey. I also liked "I feel bad About My Neck" by Nora Ephron who died recently. It probably appeals more to the middle-aged crowd (like me!). I'm not sure either one is "hysterical," but they are both amusing.
