Looking for Help with Colored Hair

I have colored my hair for the third time (ever) at a salon. I am a natural blonde and wanted to go a little darker. The first time I got it colored the color did not take too well and only lasted about 3 weeks. The second time I got it colored, I asked for brunette with some red highlightes. The only color that took was the red, so my entire hair color was fire engine red. After about two months it faded and looked okay. Yesterday I got my hair colored again and asked for light brown with blonde highlights. The stylist used a brown that is used to cover gray hair since my hair did not take the brown the last time. Well, it took the brown a little too well and it is almost black and the blonde highlights look almost gray. Does anyone know of a product I can use to tone down the color a little. I know it will fade over time, but in the past it took about two months. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

My sister-in-law had a similar problem with her color going black. If it's pretty newly done you can try what she was told to try. She was told to wash her hair with Tide. It toned the color down so it wasn't so harsh. Good luck!

I know if you wash your hair with pert plus or head and shoulders, it may help to strip the color alittle bit.

If you color it again, I would go somewhere else. See if maybe another salon might be able to do something differently. You could also go to a different salon and they could fix your hair. Probably only the blonde part though as it's much easier to fix a lighter color than a darker. Good luck. Believe me, I've been there!

It will fade with washing. I would get shampoo for blonde or silver hair to help pull it faster and to protect the lighter shade. You can also get lemon kool aid and rinse your hair, put on a shower cap or wrap wet hair in plastic wrap after about 15 minutes heat your wrapped hair with a blow dryer for about 5 to ten minutes and rinse out. It may take a few times but it will help fade the color. Do be careful, however, because as you lift out the darker shade it can get brassy and if you have golder highlights they can get brassy as well.
Sounds like you should just go with high and low lights instead of coloring your whole head. Hasn't the cosmetologist discussed this with you? The first thing to remember is that for the darker color to take you need to pick out a shade then go a least one shade lighter in the same family, the stylist needs to use a few drops of red in it and use 10 volume developer. For the lighter shade she should be going 1 lighter and using 20 volume unless you are trying to lift some of the color and then she she use 25 or at the max 30 volume to lift and set the lighter color.
Anything in the ash family is going to have a greyish cast to it so to prevent that pick something in the gold family.
Yes, I am a licensed cosmetologist and I used to sell Avon too.

Get some lemonade kool-aid. Wet your hair and put the kool-aid in your hair. Then put a shower cap on it and leave it on about 20 minutes. Take your hair dryer and run it over the shower cap. Then rinse out. You may need to repeat a few times, but it will tone it down. My hair dresser told my daughter to do this when she darkened her hair and it was way too dark. It did work. We did it a few times.

Not to be rude but if all the tries have been with the same hair sylist I would go elsewhere.... If there is a beauty school close by I would go in and tell them what was done and see what they can do for you the teachers should be able to fix you or direct you to someone who should be able to work with your hair type. Good luck I know how it feels

Wow - I had the exact same problem a few years ago, and I ended up leaving the salon with neon pink stripes in my hair! A different salon might be the solution, or you could do it yourself and save a ton of money. I love the Garnier Nutrisse color "Honeydip" which is a very warm light brown. The Garnier is very easy to do at home and lasts about 5-6 weeks. Unlike when I used to get it done at the salon, the color doesn't build up after several months of re-dying and start to look fake.

Go back to the salon. Give them a chance to fix it for you. Most places want you to leave, and stay, happy. Repeat customers and referals keep their business. How experienced was the person who did it? If she was younger, perhaps ask for someone who has been doing hair a little longer.

K.,

I can't imagine a natural blonde wanting to go brunette. A Clairol H air Color rep once told me that the shampoo for oily hair is the strongest for removing color.

However, you're probably going to have to get it fixed professionally because you might end up with brassy hair by trying to fade the dark brown. Good luck
