I'm trying to figure out where to take my daughter for back help. I've been taking her to a chiropractor but she has to keep getting adjustments and the back isn't doing any better. I'm thinking of the Texas Back Institute, but I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions or experience. Thanks for your time.

I've had back pain most of my entire adult life but I always blamed it on lifting my disabled son or working out. I went to chiropractors for years and trusted them. A year ago when my back went out I decided to contact Texas Back Institute. They were wonderful. Turns out I've had a form of spinal arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis for several years which has been untreated and has caused some of my discs to fuse together. I picked up the x-rays from my chiropractor and there was evidence even then and the chiropractor never told me. I now have to take injections of Enbrel and several other meds. I use Dr. Patel and he is awesome. Not to scare you because my condition is rare for my age but based on my experience I recommend going to an M.D. or D.O first before going to a chiropractor.

I went to the TX Back Institute and received wonderful care. They have chiropractors, surgeons, and rehabilitation specialists on staff so you get the full treatment right there depending on what your needs are.

I had a badly herniated disk and worked with a chiropractor there...for the longest time he never did adjustments...they used ultrasound on my back.

My story is long and drawn out-the gist of it is that it took quite a while for my back to "calm down". I was told if I had surgery, it would most likely reoccur as I got older. I was told if I could go long enough without reaggravating it that it would shrink, harden and heal itself. Right now I haven't had a back "incident" for over 2 years...and I didn't need to get surgery.

Love the Texas Back Institute!

You don't say what is wrong with her back, but I grew up with a chiropracter (my grandfather). Since he has long been retired, I now go to Dr. Robert Louder. He's great!!! He tries different techniques and also does accupuncture! He and his office manager are great and very friendly. I even got my husband to go to him and he loved it. Here's his contact information: 11325 Pegasus St. #E141, Dallas, TX 75238 · Phone ###-###-####. If your daughter needs something more, he will tell you.

I always hear, "I've been to a chiropractor and it isn't helping". There are over 250 different ways/techniques in chiropractic and they all work, it's finding the one that will work for you daughter is the answer. I'm definitely not suggesting that you have to go to 250 chiropractors to find the one that will fit your daughter's needs, but don't give up on the non-drug, non-surgical approach of chiropractic.
Your daughter probably just needs a more specific approach. I practice upper cervical specific care called Grostic. Each adjustment is specifically designed to not only what your daughter needs, but specifically to her structure.
Here is a great website, run by patients, that will give you some of the studies, testimonials and doctors in your area. I'm in Plano, so I'm not far from you. Email me directly with any questions.
As for Trisha, your first response, I feel ashamed that her chiropractor did not pick up on AS. It was truly an elementary mistake and should never have happened!
