CALL and ask first if Cranvbrook will allow you to take photographs on their grounds. Also call Oakland University and see if they allow photographs on their grounds.

Try Hawk Woods in Auburn Hills and Spencer Park in Rochester Hills as well as Troy nature center and Troy village in Troy. Also try the Metro parks further afield and Wolcott farm in Armada.....

Well I would suggest Milford, but thats not in your area.
But we have a festival in Aug and you could make a day of it.
Google Milford Memories,, they are on Facebook too.
But we have some really decent old bulidings around, some of the homes are now mesiums, you can even find pictures in the area stores dating back 100 years ( well old anyway). Arms brothers store had been here since I was a child and we just recently lost the owner, so thats 50 some odd years. During Milford Memories they have a camp set up in the Central Park where they make it look like a camp for soldiers, its really awesome I go every year.

I agree with the previous posts... Yates is a great location. Another spot is the Van Hoosen farm in Rochester. They have a great little kid garden, mini school house, tractor, etc that made for some great photos of my 2 year old last fall.

I love Yates Cider Mill in Rochester Hills! It is located at Dequindre and 23 Mile. The Cider Mill is on the south side of the road and there is a park on the north side. There is a stream that runs through it, railroad tracks and the big paddlewheel of the cider mill.

We had our family pictures done in a park in Royal Oak (just 1 city south of Birmingham) - it is on the corner of Catalpa (which is halfway between 11 and 12 mile) and Maxwell (just east of Woodward). It backs up to railroad tracks. We had our pictures done in the fall and the park is FULL of trees so there were tons of beautiful leaves around.

You can also try on the grounds at Cranbrook (just off of Woodward in Bloomfield - just north of Birmingham). The Birmingham/Royal Oak area has tons of parks.
