I am looking for recommendations for good parental control software. Basically to stop or to make sure that my kids don't access any bad sites.

We just had a guest speaker at our church this past Sunday to address the importance of parental control over the internet, so I have some good recommendations for you! He suggested using both an Internet filter and an accountability program. Here is what he suggested:

K9WebProtection.com (free internet filter)
X3Watch.com (free accountability program)

- OR-

SafeEyes ($40 per year subscriptioin, but it's a little more sophisticated that the previous two and combines both the internet filter and the accountability program)

Good luck - it's great your stopping problems before they may occur!

C.,
I would definitely install something else, I'm told www.besafe.com is a good one. Kim Komando has it on her site and others endorse it. I'll be ordering it too. I had the at&t software on my cpu and my teenager still managed to access some nasty stuff, none of which was healthy!

Good luck to you.

We use Covenant Eyes. Each user has his/her own password. We can set up not only the amount of time someone can be on the internet but also the level of openess each has. For our youngest, the level is set really low. Every week as an accountability partner, we receive a report of websites viewed. If there is a site that is blocked, only the primary account holder can authorize it. So your child would have to come to you for you to type in your password to clear him/her into certain site. We do not allow any computer to be used in this house unless it has Covenant Eyes installed.

Check with your internet provider for parental controls available. I have AT&T DSL and I can setup specific sites my kids may access. I haven't done it yet since I have not given them an email address but I believe I can also control any kids of searching they try to do. AOL also had parental controls.
