Due to being a single parent and not able to afford the medical insurance thru my job I am forced to be on the medical card thru the government. My regular doctor has recently referred me to a fertility doctor due to not being able to get pregnant in over 2 years. The doctors they gave me do not take the medical card. Does anyone know of a fertility doctor that accepts the medical card? Or a fertility doctor that is not too expensive and is able to take a payment plan for the expenses?
the medical card only covers medically necessary services and so doesn't cover fertility treatments. None of the doctors are cheap, though most have payment plans but a typical IVF will cost you around $10-12k. The drugs alone are close to $4k and you have to pay for them upfront.
I have no idea if this group takes a medical card, but I highly recommend Dr. Mary Wood-Molo of Womens' Health Consultants. Her office is located in the Rush University Medical Center and the website is www.whcchicago.com.

Good luck. And if you take that route, understand that you have to surrender a bit of yourself and "play the game" of allopathic care, because it can get overwhelming if you let it.

From the conversations I have had with her, I know that she works with people who have limited resources or their insurances don't pay. She often gives discounts and offers easy payment plans. Illinois has a program called Shared Risk that you may want to check in to. You will still have to pay for medications and is still expensive, but they have a payment plan.
I'm using Dr. Randy Morris with IVF1 in Naperville, I'm having a good experience there and they were the only ones to accept our HMO. You may want to tray and call them (or look on their website ivf1.com)
I went through fertility treatments and did a great deal of research regarding insurance coverage. There is no coverage for fertility treatments on a medicard. It can be very limited even with insurance. It is VERY expensive and all fertility doctors (that I am aware of) expect full payment if you do not have insurance. My insurance covered it but my girlfriend's did not. She had to pay in-full before they would do any services. To be frank, it is tens of thousands of dollars. My insurance paid over $200,000 when we were all though.
