Hi: This is the first time I have used this site. I am looking for a good OB GYN for my friends 16 year old daughter who has ovarian cysts. She is very overweight and had a bad experience (male OBGYN). She was given a paper sheet but it only covered the midsection. Mother asked for gown and and was told get use to it. Is there any Dr.'s still using gowns? Mine is male and uses paper sheets. Any recommendations on a good female OB GYN? She refuses to go back. Any recommendations for this situation?

What can I do next?

DR LEBEL, DR STONER OR DR KOFOED AT HIGHLANDS CENTER FOR WOMEN ARE ALL GREAT FEMALE DOCTORS. IT DOES TAKE ABOUT 2 MONTHS TO GET AN APPT. THEY DO USE THE PAPER, BUT COULD PROBABLY GET A GOWN IF IT WERE REQUESTED. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hi S.,

I am very sorry to hear of your friends negative experience with their daughter. That is most certainly insensitive treatment they have recieved. I certainly hope it is not with any of the doctors I am about to recommend... Although I can not imagine it will be as I have been there 10+ years and have been more than pleased with my treatment.

We moved to SC from PA 15 years ago. I am a mother of 2, Olivia, 3.5 yrs and Max, 1 month. When we came to Greenville I also wanted a female doctor. I found Dr. Demonstenes. She is the 1st female OBGYN in Greenville. She is with Greenville OBGYN. They have offices on the Eastside, near the Greenville Memorial Hosp and in Simpsonville.

Anyway, there are 8 doc's in this practice. Two female, Dr. D like I mentioned above, and Dr. Chase Dunn Roarke. I have since switched from Dr. D to Dr. Stamm (male). I just persoanlly preffered his manner to the others. He is FANTASTIC! All the doc's there are as I have seen them all over the course of two pregnancies. I would recommend them going to interview DR. D and Cahse Dunn- Roarke. But I woud also rec. them meeting Drs. Stamm and Price. Two very experienced, kind and friendly Drs. And yes, I do beleive they use gowns and sheets.

best of luck to your freind and her daughter.

I go to the Highlands Center for Women and there are 2 female doctors in the group and one nurse practicioner. They still use paper sheets, but I am overweight and do not care for the paper sheets, so I take one of my twin size sheets. I just wash it when I get home, but it covers me and makes me feel better to use that than what they provide. So that is always an option. I know also that Blossom OB GYN is a female doctor and she specializes in cysts, and other female health problems, I am not sure if they use sheets or not, but it would be work checking out both practices. The doctors are very good and very gentle.

I have heard great things about the Highlands, but Upstate Ob-Gyn ###-###-####) is where I go, and they are great too. They have an office in Greenville and in Clemson. There are 2 female doctors there, and I think 3 male doctors. I usually see Dr. Stephanie Dach (pronounced Doc) or Dr. G. Martin French (yes, he is a male, but truly compassionate, I forget that I am mostly naked). I talked to Dr. French at my last appointment about those paper things. They have a paper top, to cover your breasts, and a paper sheet to cover from the waist down. We were talking about how those paper outfits are so ridiculous, he joked that they have a life span of about 15 minutes! He didn't seem to be opposed to the idea of wearing your own gown, or "house coat" as my Mom calls it, those gowns that button or zip all the way down.

Dr. Dach is also really sweet, very personal, and understanding (in fact she just had a baby). She and Dr. French performed my last c-section, and they are just wonderful. They also have a wonderful nurse, Micky, in the Greenville office. She is very "motherly" to the patients (I think she has 5 kids). I feel like I can ask her anything. Christy, a nurse in the Clemson office, is very nice too. They are very accomodating.

After your friend and her daughter decide upon an ob-gyn, I recommend that they call the ob-gyn office, and just ask if it is ok if she changes into a house coat for her examination. I am sure it won't be the first time they have been asked!

Hi S.,

I have been going to Greenville OB/GYN for the past 15 years and recently gave birth to a baby girl. I have been with Dr. Michael Stamm for my yearly exams but Dr. Demosthenes ( bettter known as Dr. D) was my OB for the birth. I LOVE HER. I trust her with my life. She has a great "bedside" manner and is very gentle. I now go to her for yearly exams. I highly recommend both Dr. Michael Stamm and Dr. D. I would recommend Dr. D to all of the females in my life.

Hi S.,

My daughter is 15 and went for her first GYN visit recently. She refused to see a male doctor too so I arranged for my oldest daughter to take her to a place called Women's Premier Medical in Powdersville (across from Bi-lo's). All the doctors are female. When she got there, they asked her to strip and put on this paper vest that opened down the side and a paper sheet to cover her lap. My oldest daughter went in the exam room with her, who also said everything went off without a hitch. So I feel pretty confident recommending this place. As soon as I can phone my phone book, I'll get you a phone number.

I currently go to Piedmont OBGYN and they are great. One office is located on HWY 14 and the other is behind Greenville Memorial Hospital. Their webside is www.piedmontobgyn.yourmd.com. They are really nice, especially Dr DuBose and Dr Moore.
