I encourage adoption. I encourage you to please consider making a lifetime commitment to this pet. Where ever you choose to get it, PLEASE ensure it is spayed/neutered. I encourage you to keep it indoors, for all the horrible things that happen to outdoor cats. I encourage you to teach your grand daughter about unconditional love via a pet and responsibility by caring for the cat for his/her lifetime.

Adopt - don't shop.

I've volunteered for a local animal sanctuary for years, and helped many families with cat adoptions. Based on the experience of the sanctuary I have been with, I recommend that you let your granddaughter and her parents select a cat/kitten themselves. If you would like the animal to be a gift from you, then a fun way to do that would be to get your granddaughter a cute book about kittens and write her a note saying you'd like to make a special date with her to go and pick out a kitten herself. Then plan for a day when you and your granddaughter and her parents can go together to at least a couple of local shelters/sanctuaries to meet kittens and find one whose personality fits best with their lifestyle. It's important that her parents go along, because they will be the 'responsible party' for caring for the kitten if/when your granddaughter isn't willing or able to herself. I personally think it's important that you choose a local shelter/sanctuary because then you'll be saving a life - there are SO many cats euthanized every day because they don't have homes. But I won't go on and on about that...

I've gotten a "free" kitten through an ad and a kitten through the humane society, costs more to take the "free" one when you get their shots and spayed/neutered, I live them both though. good luck! :o)

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is a great organization. They are based out of Utah, but have rescue contacts in the area. Try http://adoptions.bestfriends.org/

try craigs list.com or any newspaper in the classifieds- they are usually free or under $20.00 you can adopt on from pets mart or the shelter- they cost a little more- but shots & fixing are included. hope she enjoys her real cat!

You can try the Arizona Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. I received my cat through them and they are great at saving cats and keeping them from being euthanized. You can check out their website at http://www.azars.org/index.htm. Good luck.
