I will be moving to the St. Peters, MO area within the next month and need help locating a good day care. I'm open to facility day cares- but more interested in at home babysitters. My daughter will be attending kindergarten this fall- are there any programs where they can go to school and then have an after school program/ day care type thing? Please advise. Thank you.

M.,

I am new myself to this area but did find a facility in St. Peters. It is called Karen's Kids. They are reasonably priced (I thought). I have a newborn and it was $180/wk. (Most centers are $220+ around here.)

I hope this helps. I unfortunately just threw away their information but I am sure you can look up their number on YellowPages.com

Good Luck,

S.

Have gone to Developmental Learning Center (DLC Academy) at Willot and Mid Rivers Mall Drive for several years. Great teachers, reasonable rates, and cares about each child.

My son goes to St. Charles Community College Early childhood development program. This is a REALLY great program I would reccomend anyone to check out and send their kids too. This is in a brand new building, very clean, safe, the teachers are all in the field of study with MBA's or higher. The class size is around 6 with 2 teachers. It can be a little expensive but it's completely worth it.

My son has learned so much from this program and it can be very difficult to get into because of the high demand and limited amount of children per teacher ratio. I'm not sure when you are planning on moving but I do know they have waiting lists here. I can tell you from experience that most good programs around here have waiting lists. This is a newly developed area and therefore quite a bit of families with children. That being said I would do my research too.

I would also check out YMCA, www.renaudspiritcenter.com or www.stpetersmo.net REC PLEX.

These are community centers that are located in the heart of St. Charles county (St. Peters/O'Fallon). If nothing else they have great after school and family activites and kid programs. We take swim classes at the Renaud Spirit Center (sports complex). I would start here.

As far as the mortgage industry interest: I work in the mortgage industry right now. I would say to check out www.citigroup.com & www.nexstar.com. Both of these are literally 5 minutes from St. Peters and have tons of openings. It's the world's best commute! You'll want to apply to CITI pretty soon because their hiring process can take up to 3+ weeks to complete. They have a program called CITI FLEX for working mothers. This allows you to take off and switch hours as needed if your child is in activities, sports, sick, etc.

CITI is located right off HWY 40 & HWY K in O'Fallon (zip 63366). Nexstar is located right across the street close to HWY 40. There are also tons of Mortgage companies located in St. Louis as well.

CreveCor Mortgage is also a good company to work for. My friend works here and they love it. If you lived in St. Peters it would be around a 30-35 minute commute depending of where you are living.

www.crevecor.com

You can always check out www.mbaa.org and do a search for Missouri Mortgage companies and start applying. I'm not sure what you do in the mtg industry so what you do depends on where you want to work.

Hope this helps. I know what it's like to live in a new area so hang in there! You'll love O'Fallon/St. Peters!

Hi M.,

I used to live in St. Peters, and fortunately there is a lot available in that area. You can check with any public school in the Fort Zumwalt school district for pre-school. There website is: http://www.fzschools.org/

Also, there are some very good parochial preschools in that area. We really liked them a lot, because they seem to do better activities than the other schools (just my opinion), and the teachers were truly there for the kids. These schools weren't anymore expensive than the public schools either. Here are some parochial schools I found in that area: http://www.lcms.org/ca/www/locators/nchurches/c_summary1.asp

If you only want babysitting in a home setting, you should search the classified ads in the newspaper which you can search online at: http://stlatwork.careercast.com/js.php?

Select "Domestic/Childcare" under the "category" search. The zip code for St. Peters is 63376. The city of O'Fallon is intertwined with St. Peters, and their zip code is 63366.

If your daughter will be starting Kindergarten next year, you may want to consider an actual pre-school, because they can assess your child to see if she's ready for Kindergarten, and what areas she may need help with. You will get that type of help at both public and parachial pre-schools.

I hope this helps and good luck to you! Welcome to Missouri!

Sincerely,
Kathy
