I was on Lexapro for quite awhile and I thought it was wonderful! My only problem with it is that I gained 10 pounds in about 3 months. (Definitely not due to a change in my diet, I can only blame it on the Lexapro) I was afraid that I would keep gaining, so I went off of it and on to Welbutrin, which is not supposed to have any effect on weight. Welbutrin does not work as well for me as Lexapro did. My sister is on Lexapro also and she never struggled with some of the side effects like I did, so I think everyone really is different.
I've never had experience with Meridia. Hope this helps!

My doctor put me on Lexapro for post-partum depression. It really helps keep you level, the only draw back to the med is if you forget to take a pill you go into withdrawl. It's horrible, you get dizzy and are sick until you take another pill. I also just tried to wean off of my pill, and I can't I can't be sick and try to work, and take care of my little one. Hope this helps!!'[

Rene,

My husband was diagnosed with a noncurable cancer 2 years ago and he takes Lexapro 10mg. He is a very positive person but gets down due to his diagnosis and the fact that we have 4 children from age 6-2yrs. Lexapro has made a big difference for him in a positive way. We haven't noticed any side effects except some wait gain. It is non-habit forming/non-addictive and can be taken with several other medications without causing problems if taking something else. Hope this helps and good luck!

Lexapro is a wonderful medication if you need that type of help. I say it saved my life. It calmed me down and helped me a lot when I really needed it. It's very gentle on your system. I didn't experience any side effects and was able to go on and off the meds very easily. Good Luck!

Hi R.M:
My doctor tried me on the Lexapro last summer, and I did not fare well on it. I got sick to my stomach and couldn't sleep. The other I have not heard of. In place of the Lexapro, my doctor used Effexor.

Good luck!

Rene'
I am currently taking Lexapro. I take it for depression. My life is quite challenging and I find it really helps. I started taking it for PPD after my second child was born. I then thought I didn't need it due to changes of stress in my life. But I was wrong. I find it does not have sexual side effects that other anti-depressants have. That was a big one for me. I tried 2 different ones before and I felt so bad for my husband. It bothered me for him to touch me. The lexapro is much better. I also find it to help with my weight.
I never did mirenia.
Good luck. J.

Both my son and myself took Lexapro and we both had to stop taking it.He had alot of weight issues with it(too many and it was medically necessary to take him off of it)and other than horrible mood swings i never noticed a change..........wait it seemed i got worst/
I have taken Zoloft,Paxil,Prozac and they have worked. The only reason why i don't take anything now is because i have learned to control my depression with medidation and relaxation. It took many years to learn this and there are times that i get into those"dark places"but normally i just need some down time from the kids and dh and i'm fine,
My son has ADHD,OCD and bipolar but takes 2 meds. One being Paxil.....it has worked wonders for him.
But good luck and i hope that helps some. But remember

What works for one, might not work for another

Rene,
I've never heard of Maridia. Lexapro is a pretty popular anti-depressent/anti-anxiety medication. I'm pretty sure the side-effects are mild, but it usually depends on how the person handles taking medication. Also, it depends what you need it for. Sometimes a low dose of a medication like Lexapro can work wonders for mild depression or anxiety.

Hi Rene, I am glad to share my experience with you, but unfortunately it is not a very good one. Lexapro is one I was given once, and it was awful. My husband and daughter, who was 12 at the time, both remember how it made me seem like someone I'm not....very angry for one! For another, the mood swings were terrible. Of course, Lexapro is the type of med that acts differently in everybody. I know someone who felt great on Lexapro. Sometimes it is worth trying to see if there is a difference in how you feel. Good luck.

I have taken Lexapro on numerous occasions for anxiety and depression. I found this drug to be very helpful for me. Unlike Zoloft, which I had been on previously, I could still have emotions, they just weren't uncontrollable any more. With this said, my friend took Lexapro and it didn't work as well for her, so she opted for Zoloft. You just need to give it a try and see how you react to it. And don't be afraid to speak up if it's not helping. Also, these aren't "magic" pills, so you do have to be ready to do a little personal growth and be realistic about it. It's always good to have someone you can talk to about how you're truely feeling.....whether it be a professional or just a close friend or your husband. I know I always felt better when I could just vent to someone as well.

I also weened myself off of it. I fought a bit of dizziness while doing that, so you may want to consult the doctor if you want to go off it. I tend to be on something for a few months and when I feel better go off it for a while. I don't like to be totally dependent on medication. Good Luck!

I took Lexapro and was on it for about a year. I found that it worked great. I took myself off of it with the consent of the doctor. He said that when I felt ready I could stop taking it. I didn't have any side affects from it, but everyone is different. Hope this helps.

Hi Rene', I was on Lexapro for a short time and it started working for me but I discontinued it without even really giving it a chance because I was so distraught about being on medication and I was convinced I could overcome depression without it. This decision set off a roller coaster for me (it was awful) of going on and off a number of antidepressants for over a year against my doctor's advice before I finally accepted that I needed them. When I finally did start taking them and gave them a chance to work it changed my life. The motivating factor for me was that I started having children (first was unplanned) and I realized that if I couldn't function well for them I wasn't going to be the best Mom I could be. I'm not sure what your history is. It may be completely different from mine but my best advice would be to try it and see what it does for you. I would be aware of what the side effects are but don't go and read all the blogs that are out there on the internet. I find that there are mostly negative and you don't know if they are even true or if the side effects are from the medications or the underlying issue the person is dealing with or if people from pharmaceutical companies are writing in just to promote one drug over another. I've found it best to work with my doctor and see what works best for me. Different people can also react very differently to the same drug. And I've also found that most side effects go away after a few weeks. I've never taken Meridia but I know it's promoted as a weight loss drug but it also mildly increases serotonin which should ease depression. Right now I'm on a combination of Prozac and Wellbutrin because these are considered some of the safest to take during pregnancy and these have worked really well for me during the past few years. Hope that was helpful! Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Jan 06, I suddenly lost my 36 year old husband. I am also hypoglycemic, the anxiety/grief would throw my insulin into huge dumps and put me in a fast tailspin.
I was on Lexapro to help with the whole combo of emotions.
I was given 10 mg. but found I did well with 5mg. I stayed on 5mg. for a year and have been off it since last July.
For me it served a very important purpose. Like any drug, there are usually some to little side effects involved.

I hope you find a solution for your need. :)

Lexapro helped my daughter for a while, but ended up causing her paranoia. I think this can be true with any of these meds, you should just be aware of the potential, let someone you know and trust be aware of the potential, and report and change meds as soon as this occurs.

Lexapro works great for me, Rene'. I don't notice any side effects whatsoever. I've been taking it a total of two and a half years (on and off with pregnancies). I take it for anxiety and I noticed a difference in myself in a week. Could that have been psychological? Who cares!?! If I felt better, then I'm fine with that! I have no experience with Meridia. Good luck!

Rene,
Go onto webmd.com, they have many responses from people that have used those drugs and they give feedback from actuall people. A friend of mine loved Lexapro but she was one of the few that had the side effect of increased sweating but the drug really helped her and when she weaned off of it she DID NOT have all the issues you hear about.
Good luck!

I have taken Lexapro and it helps some - however it's a very low does medication. It's not an instant relief from anything, but once it's in your system you feel better,

I'm not familiar with Meridia but I've taken Lexapro for 5 years for anxiety. It has helped tremendously. My advice to you:
They will probably have you start out at 10mg. If you're feeling better after 6 weeks on the 10mg don't let them increase your dosage to 20mg! I guess 20mg is the norm but if you're feeling better on the 10mg (as I did) not sense in upping it. Good luck.
