Looking for an OB/GYN and Pediatrician

We just moved to Germantown, and I'm looking for an OB/GYN. I need to get my annual exam done, but will also probably be pregnant in the next few months. Any recommendations would be great! I would really like someone who is very friendly, but it's most important that they're knowledgeable, of course.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for pediatricians? We need to find one for my daughter. I would really like someone who listens well. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Pediatrics East is a great group of physicians. They have multiple locations (we use the one in Cordova but have utilized the G'twn office on multiple occassions since they have evening appointments). If you choose that group they will normally just assign you to a doctor the 1st time and then after that you can continue with that doctor or choose another one. I highly recommend Pediatrics East -- they have night appointments in G'twn, they have Sat. appointments as well as Sunday appointments starting at noon and I have never had a problem with any of the doctors (with 2 boys we have seen many of the doctors in the group at one point or another over the past 9 yrs).

We love Dr. Charles Yukon for a pediatrician. His office is near Germantown Road and Humphreys/Wolf River. He and his staff are so wonderful!

I go to Womens Care Clinic of Memphis. The offices are located off of Wanut Grove at Baptist Hospital. We moved here about 5 years ago and someone recommended them to me and I have loved going there. There are about 10 doctors in that office, I personally see Dr. Judith Williams, but I have heard everyone there is fabulous. They also have a great OB side to the office too. Their # is ###-###-####. They also have an office off of poplar ave. but I have never been over there. Same Dr's at that location they just rotate between offices. The number is the same. When you call you can just ask them for whichever office is closer to your home. Good luck!!

Hey there M.!
For OB/GYN, I saw Dr. Elaine Thompson at MOGA (Memphis Obstetrician/gynecological association) in Southaven, MS, a little less than 20 miles away from Germantown. She is great! Very personable, friendly, and knows her stuff! I did not use her as an OB at the beginning of my pregnancy, but saw her a few times when my doctor was out, and she was on call when I went into labor and ended up delivering my little boy. I then saw her for my post-partum visit, and she remembered me and my little boy (can't say that for many doctors, especially in big cities) and was just overall wonderful!

I use Dr. Jacob Vargo at Memphis Children's Clinic in Southaven, MS as well. (He's actually just a few doors down from the MOGA building.) and he is terrific! He is the most involved doctor I have EVER had or dealt with. At the beginning of the appointment, he always asks if we have any questions for him, and even when he is done explaining anything, he asks if we have questions, AND at the END of the appointment. He takes his time making sure we fully understand everything, instead of telling us everything is okay then rushing us out the door! I also think he practices in Memphis, but not sure. One evening when my son was just a few weeks old, I was worried about him not having bowel movements, and called the nurse on call to get some advice, she gave it to me, and the next afternoon they called just to check up on him. Sooo thoughtful. I've never had an experience like that with a doctor, atleast where I'm from. I have also heard many good things about Dr. Whitehead at Memphis Children's Clinic. Hope atleast some of this helps!!! And have fun in Germantown, my husband, and I are looking to be living there sometime in February/March.

Hi M. M. welcome to the Memphis area.
I am seven months pregnant and have a 2 1/2 year old. I have been using Memphis OBGYN for almost 8 years and have had wonderful experiences. I see Lynn Kirkland, she takes her time and I always leave with all of my questions answered and more. All of my friends use her as well and are very happy. I know they have several locations for convience but the Bartlett office number is ###-###-####. You alawys feel like you are going to visit a friend when you see her, she takes her time and goes that extra step for you. I will never see anyone else.

As for pediatricians I use Dr. Joel Kronenberg. It is an older office in East Memphis but he is the only doctor that I have found that really listens to what I say and when she is sick he does not just tell me it is a virus and sends me off. He ALWAYS does a blood count (or any testing that is needed) to see if it is virus or if it is bacterial and requires antibioics. I have tried others (looking for a closer doctor) but they would always tell me it was a virus and we ended back in their office drawing blood or other testing because she was not getting well. I know that when I see Dr. Kronenberg I do not have a return visit in my future for something that could have been done the first time. Plus when you call his office and need to leave a message for a return call, he actually calls you back, not a nurse. And you can always get an appointment that day. His office number is ###-###-####. He has a wonderful personality and makes the kids laugh. My daughter adores him and is willing to go to the doctor because she wants to see him.
Good luck and I hope this was helpful.

I use Dr. Laura Bishop and absolutely love her. She has 2 offices, this is her Germantown one.:
7705 Poplar Ave
Ruch Clinic
Suite 330
Germantown, TN 38138

http://ruchclinic.com/home is their homepage.

She is a great listener, ready to explain anything to you that you need to know and if it's important to you (like it was to me) she is a Christian (she doesn't impose that on anyone however).

M.,
I highly recommend my OB and pediatrician who are both in Germantown. Elizabeth Riseling is my OB, and she works with Memphis OBGYN. She works out of Methodist Germantown 2-3 days a week. My husband and I LOVE our pediatrician Dr. Edwards aka "Dr. Bubba." He works with Pediatrics East and his office is on Exeter in Germantown. I think you would be very happy with both of them. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Hi M.,

Congrats on moving to Germantown. I hope you and your family enjoy all that it has to offer. As far as OB/GYN, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Judi Carney with Mid-South OBGYN. I have been a patient of hers for over 2 years and am pregnant for the 2nd time. She is very intelligent, but most importantly she listens to every one of my concerns and takes the time to talk to me. She is also very good at answering my husbands questions and acknowledging his presence at each and every doctor's visit. As you can probably tell, I'm a huge fan of hers! The office number is ####-###-####.

As far as a peditrician, I would recommend Dr. Ashley Miller with Laurelwood Peditriacs. They are located in East Memphis, but it is worth the little bit of the drive. I have seen several of the doctors at the practice as well and have been happy with all of our visits.

Good luck with your search. I hope that my recommendations have helped a little. I have lived in the Memphis area for almost 30 years. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. Have a great day!

Hi there,

Dr Charles Yukon was recommended to us when we had our daughter. He is in Germantown on Germantown road, the practice was started by his dad who is now retired and he has another doctor working with him. They are very nice.

I have also used Adams-Patterson OBGYN, they have offices in building B behind the Germantown Methodist hospital at Poplar & Germantown. I have gone to several of their doctors over the years and they are all very nice.

Hope you love living in Germantown!

Hey M.,

I highly recommend Ob/Gyn Specialists of Memphis at 6401 Poplar Ave # 530. You can also check them out at www.obgynspecs.com...They are highly knowledgeable, and all woman. Only woman work in the practice which I find comforting when you are already uncomfortable position of going to that kind of doctor! I have been going to that practice for 3 years and they delivered my daughter this past December. When I got pregnant, my main doctor in the practice (Dr. Ruffin) suggested that I do a "meet and greet" to get to know all the doctors and their preferences/delivery styles so I wasn't surprised at all when it came time to have my daughter. The whole experience was wonderful and I have to think them for it because they really prepared me!

As for a pediatrician, I recommend the Raleigh Group at 2860 Covington Pike Memphis, TN 38128 ###-###-#### or check out their website at www.raleighgroup.com. When I was 7 months pregnant, I went to the practice and spoke with 3 of the doctors. None of them minded meeting with an overly-cautious mom-to-be...I didn't feel like I was wasting their time, even though technically I was!...They made me feel like my daughter was the most important patient they would have...and she wasn't even born yet!

Good Luck! and Congrats on the move to Memphis!

K.

Pediatrician: Dr. Vanessa Sepulveda at Pediatric consultants is fantastic. We moved here with a 3 month old (now almost 4 years) and he just loves her. If he even gets the hiccups he will say that he wants to go see "Dr. Pulveda". Her care is smart and compassionate.
