Looking for an Exercise Video to Enhance Diet Changes

I have recently joined weight watchers and have been doing well, I am down 11 pounds in about 10 weeks. It started off great, 5 pounds, then 3, and now I am averaging about 1/2 pound each week. I want to incorporate excercise into my daily routine, but my days are packed, as I am sure most everyone's is and really can't make it to the gym. My husband is a chef so he works nights and weekends and I start the day @ 5:30/6 in the morning and am usually going until about 8:30 pm once I have all the kids in bed. I am wondering if anyone out there has tried any of the Jillian Michaels videos. The 30 day shred looks interesting, but I don't want to buy it and find out that it's like being in the military. I do want something that is upbeat with cardio as I think that that will be the best compliment to my new diet. I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences with me to help me make a decision. Thanks so much, M..

I did the same recently and found great success with Denise Austin Boot Camp. There are three segments. One cardio, one cardio and strength training, and one stretching. The first two are a little over 20 minutes each which really fit into a busy mom's routine. When you have more time, you can do both together. Once you are in really good shape, you may find that it isn't challenging anymore but it really helped my start a routine and tone up. Good luck!

I really like the 30 day shred. It's tougher than you think, but we can do anything for 20 minutes (just consider like sitting through a tantrum!) The movements are easy but the repetition is what gets ya. Anyway, I did rent it from the library and then found the different segments online.

Check out your local library. You could "rent " them for free. See what ones you may like that way. If you're a tag sale person you may be able to find some that way too. Good luck & congrats on your loss.

You should try The Biggest Loser Workout, Cardio Max DVD. I got mine at Books-A-Million and there are three levels of workouts. I'm still on the first one, but it's a great DVD!

My husband and I both LOVE Jillian Michaels' exercise videos! He has done the 30 day shred. I do the "Quick Trouble Zones" exercises. That one is 40 minutes including warm-up and stretching, and is circuit-style, so you're doing cardio the entire time, while strengthening the upper and lower body. I have been doing this workout for almost 2 months, 3x/week, and it still kicks my butt (However, not impossible...just a great workout)!

The biggest loser cardio max is only 20 mins & is great. If you have on demand, I would recommend doing the exercise videos that they have on there & seeing what you like. They usually have a Jillian Michaels one. They tend to change tham every month, but you can fiqure out what you like before you buy anything. It's also better to change up your routine, so on demand works pretty well. Always lots of options & it's free.

I recommend the Wii game system, and Wii Fit balance board. It's a pricey initial investment, but there are some excellent options from light areobic to yoga to some really heavy duty workouts. There are a ton of sports games that are really fun and you don't even realize that your working out. The game console comes with a sports game, and the Wii Fit also includes a workout video that measures your progress and has increasingly difficult options so you can work at your own pace. Most games can be rented at any video store so you don't have to buy them unless you know you like them, plus when your kids are old enough they can use it for traditional games as well. There is even a Jillian Michaels game just for the Wii Fit. I'm not sure if you have a Game Stop or EB Games in your area, but they sell used equipment and videos and offer cash for trade ins, so that can save money also.

M., I do Jilliam Michaels "Quick Trouble Zones" and its amazing! I do it 3x a week and with in 2 weeks I started seeing results! If you have Comcast, go to on demand, fitness/exersice and theres an entire Jilliam Micheals section containing 6-7 of her work outs! If not its worth the cost of the video!Good Luck!

Hi M.,
I just started a new workout video that I LOVE!! It has five different segments that are 10 minutes each and you can pick to do only one, or a few, or all five. Today is my third day and boy am I feeling it in the abs. It's called10 Minute Solution Blast Off Belly Fat with Suzanne Bowen. I hope it works for you too!

I actually just bought the 30 day shred. I was looking for somehing I could do at home. With the kids I am finding it hard to get to the gym so I am waking up early and exercising before they get up. I like this video. It has 3 levels and you can modify every move if you want. Her style is not "yelling at you" like another video I have of hers. I would recommend this. It is a quick and effective workout.

Hey M.,
Good for you with starting WW and loosing weight! Way to go! I just recently started checking out free exercise videos on "on demand" through comcast. You just click on the on demand section then exercise. They have free ones that I believe change every few weeks or month or so. I have tried hip hop body shop and exercise with lisa rena (sp.?) Anyway, you could always give that a try if you don't want to pay for a video and you can choose the time you want to work out. Good luck!

M.,
I loved Billy Blank's Tai Bo (?sp)for a fast workout. It only took me 10 or 15 min and it was easy to do. I wouldn't recommend it at the end of the day though because it really gets your energy level soaring. I used to go out for a walk after doing that workout just to work of the excess energy! The tapes are available anywhere but I got them really cheap on half.com. Good luck and if you get tired of Weight Watchers try Fit for Life (book by Harvey Diamond is also available on half.com or any bookstore). This diet was the fastest, easiest diet I ever used. Lost lots of weight and have kept it off since 2001! Good Luck!!

congratulations on your weight loss & making the decision to get healthy. I am right there with you, I only have 1 child (6 yrs old) but DH works nights so I am in the same boat, get up at 5, shower get the kid up & leave the house by 6:30 then get home, eat, kids bath, bed & then it is 8 - 8:30 and I am exhausted. I did buy one of Jillian's work outs at Walmart but have not had the energy to try it yet. If you find something that works well & fits into our type of busy schedule let me know. If you are looking for an online buddy to keep motivated I would be willing to do that also. I used to do weight watchers and did really well on it but that was before I had my son. I haven't had the money to go back but wish I could. good luck, hope you find something that will keep you motivated. again I would be willing to be an online motivational buddy if you want.

Hi M.,
Congrats on losing the weight! Lots of people have said the Jillian Michaels program you ask about is good, so that's great.

I would like to suggest adding another workout DVD to your repertoire for days that you'd like something different (avoid burnout) and to work different muscle groups. The Mari Winsor Pilates DVD set is awesome. In the DVD set I have there are 3 - a 20-minute workout, a more advanced 60-minute workout, and an introductory instruction DVD (truthfully I've never watched it but it might be helpful to watch if you've never seen or done Pilates). Pilates are great to work your entire core, or what in Pilates they call "the powerhouse" and to tone and lengthen your whole body. I truly recommend it for days that you want to do something but don't feel like a hardcore workout.

Good luck!

Go to your local library and take out DVDs/videos that interest you. You can try each one, decide which works for you, then go buy it for everyday use.

Good luck, and good for you for making it a priority to care for yourself along with everybody else -- you're a great role model for your kids!
