Looking for Advice on Having a Low Fever

Hi moms,
My daughter is 20 months old and today was a basic day, yet she did not take a nap. Other than that she was in a good mood. around 6 pm i noticed she was sweating from her head a lot, and it was not a warm enviroment, i felt her and her whole body was feeling very clammy. I took her temp from her arm pit three times and it read 96 degrees. I'm concerned, has anyone else had this happen to their child and if so, what did you do?

What can I do next?

With a child that young, I'd just call the Dr. and see what they say. Small kids can go from bad to worse in a heartbeat.

OR....could it just have been that she had too many clothes on for the environment? I get sweaty too if I have on too many clothes....

Well, you add a point to the temp reading under the arm, so it's 97. With the sweating, could it be that she had a fever before and it just broke? Do you have a different thermometer that you could use to check the accuracy of the first?

I'd call the nurse at your ped's office and talk about it.

Hope everything is okay.

Frankly I don't think you have reason to worry. 96 degrees isn't even anywhere close to a fever, not even an elevated temperature... I don't even think she had had a fever that broke...I would expect her temp to be higher for that.
Kids are weird when it come to what is warm or cold to them. We keep out house at 68 degrees and I am FREEZING, while my daughter is taking off her pants and telling me it's too warm...
Maybe she got a little worked up while playing, maybe she was dressed a little too warm (even if you think it was appropriate).
Good luck!

She doesn't have a fever, no need to worry. When my kids sweat they get clammy too.

That's actually a slightly lower body temp and not a fever at all. Also, since you took it under her arm you add a degree and it is 97. That is within a very normal range. 98.6 is just an average and people's normal body temps can vary. My normal body temp is 96-97. As for the sweating and clamminess, could it be from some activity or exercise? I would just keep an eye on her. At that age the most important sign of illness can be their mood and demeanor. As long as she was happy and eating and drinking all sounds well.

I would just monitor her. If she is sweaty then that is a good sign, her body and her immune system or working. Don't stress to much, if her temp gets above 100.4 then give her tylenol or motrin. Dont run out to the dr unless she start presenting other signs.

My temp is usually below 97 degrees, and no doctor has ever said a thing. That part may be nothing to worry about. But I'd call the nurse advice line for your insurance or Children's hospital to ask what the clamminess might be if it continues, or maybe to ask if it could be a food reaction.

That doesn't sound worrying. I think she is fine. 96 is normal, and sometimes kids just get sweaty.

she may have had a low fever and it broke, like dawn said...i honestly don't think you have anything to be concerned about. she may be cranky because she missed her nap. i bet she will be fine this morning...good luck! my son and i have both had little bugs the last week, minor aches/headaches, and a low fever...it was no big deal. if she gets a fever again, or starts acting miserable, then use your common sense, she may have a bug of some kind. good luck.
