I need to ask you all if you have any reccomndations for a Urologist. My husband would like to get a vasectomy and although I have heard it's a pretty easy procedure, we have both heard horror stories. Any advice good or bad would help.
Thanks!

Hi E.,
I am a mom of a beautiful two and a half year old girl with a second baby newly on the way. I am also a pharmaceutical sales representative who calls on Urologists. I can give you a number of great recommendations, but am not sure what area you are targeting? I would suggest Dr. Jain, who has offices in Goodyear, Glendale, and PV ###-###-#### or Dr. Chung in Sun City ###-###-####. If you need more, one in a different area, or just want to ask a question, feel free to email me ____@____.com luck to your hubby and congratulations on the baby!

My hubby had it done 4 years ago. He said the worst part was the numbing shot. He said it wasnt painful, more like sore and he felt fine after 2 days. He had to wear a jock-strap for a week after the procedure. (his cousin had it done and didnt wear it and he was in pain for like a week) The whole procedure takes like 15 min and is done in the Dr. office. I stayed in and watched. They made a VERY small incision on each testi and pulled out these little tubes that looked like bean sprouts and cut and cotterized and tied them. He didnt even need stitches. They said that occasionaly they might have to put in one or 2, but its pretty rare.

There's always horror stories about any procedures done in hospitals, just explain your concerns to your doctor and ask him/her to recommend a urologist.

My husband and brother-in-law both just had it done by Dr. Burrows on Speedway and Kolb. Neither had any problems.

He's done all my friend's husbands. Procedure take 20 minutes and generally pain free (someone will need to take him/pick him up because he'll be on some slight med's). Sit on couch watching TV for a day with peas/ice to keep the swelling down. No more contraception is wonderful.

My husband just went threw the procedure about 3 weeks ago. My husband said it was not bad at all he felt like his old self by Tuesday( he had it done on a Friday),and by the end of the 2 week time period he said he felt like nothing ever happened. He said the most painful part of it all was the thinking about getting the numbing shot.. lol but as a married couple with 4 kids we would strongly recommend it.. If you would like the name of the Doc he seen I will be happy to give you the information just let me know..

We went w/Dr. Block in Glendale, he was in the 5757 Building on Tbird. Every thing went smoothly and the whole procedure was over quickly. Just don't let hubby, jump up and start back to doing his norm, he'll need to take it easy for a couple of days w/ an ice pack,

I have never heard of a husband "liking to get a vasectomy" but I supposed it could seem that way if someone else is thinking that it is a good idea - it's seems like you might be rushing a vasectomy though with just two small children (almost). Is he certain he never wants to father another child? My husband was rushed into a vasectomy 12 years ago (pressured by my mother) and has regretted it and thrown it in my face often enough with the clause "now I can't ever start another family with someone else" when we argue. So if YOU are positive that YOU don't want to carry any more children get your tubes tied when you give birth. That way your husband is intact but can't get you pregnant again, but will have to be careful with himself no matter what. If you aren't sure about yourself, maybe just be careful for a while and be sure you both aren't interested in having any more children before you cut off the opportunity. It's harder to reverse than to do the damage in the first place. Good luck.

Hi E.,
Just whatever you do, make sure you guys dont want anymore children. My husband had his done by his primary doctor, he had it done on a Friday and he was a little sore for the weekend, but after that he was just fine. Make sure you have frozen peas or corn on hand, he said that is the best thing to use for an ice pack. Needless to say, now that we are married, we really want more kids, so he had a reversal done. He said the pain was horrible!!! And that was 3 years ago, and still no kids :o( Please make sure you dont want anymore before having it done.
Good luck!
