Anyone out there have any ideas? My family of 4 is renting a home in the SCS area. We are paying 1300.00 in rent and are now on unemployment. Obviously, we can't afford to stay here. What options are available to us? Monthly rent is out of this world and can't get a mortgae as unemployment is not gainful income. What do ya do? I'm at a loss. We are behind in rent and I have to find some where? Any ideas? Any advice is much appreciated.

My husband and I rented a flat in the Grosse Pointe Park neighborhood when we first got married and it was 600/month. It was a two-bedroom, with a living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. It may be a little small for a family of four but I know they have flats in that area that are bigger (three bedrooms) and some even have a backyard. I don't know if you're trying to stay in the SCS area though, for the kids school.

you ought to be able to find a place to rent for a lot less than 1300 a month. I havent looked at rent prices but that seems to be very high.
I know that housing prices are down.. I would assume that rent prices are down too.
do you know about section 8?? it is subsidised housing dont know much about it..
ask Family for help. or go to low income housing. Thats what there there for.
You can look into federally-subsidized housing. Some allow kids and some don't. I lived in one in Centerline for a year and was able to save up enough to put down on a house while I was there.
