I'm in north Arlington and new to the area. I'm looking for info on preschools that are affordable. I don't qualify for any kind of programs but income is tight due to Child supportpmnt that my husband has to pay. I don't work b/c we can't afford daycare and until now i really wouldn't trust anyone to babysit but family and we don't have family here. I really want my daughter to interact with other kids her age. She has a hard time playing at the park or other activities b/c she doesn't know how to relate to other kids. Being in a strange place has isolated us.The only other playmates she has are her teenage brother and sister. Even a park program or something would work for her just to be with other kids her age.I thought a playgroup would work but i don't know of any and i'm afraid other moms would view her behavior as a turn off. I think she would calm down eventually if she had somone to play with on a regular basis.

What can I do next?

not sure if you are a "mom of color" but if you are there is a support group for stay at home moms of color called "Mocha Moms" that meets on Jefferson in Grand Prairie in St John the Baptist Church every second Tuesday of the month. You can link with other mothers for support for yourself, and the moms also meet for playdates at different times and do other community and other activities. Yopu can check out the national website "mochamoms.org" and look for the DFW-South Chapter for email and contact info.

Most church programs are very affordable, especially if it is a 2 or 3 day program. I think trying MOPS will be better than you expect. The children in these group have a wide range of behavior and the moms can all help eachother be better parents. Good Luck and God Bless

Hi J., Welcome to Texas! Im also new to Texas and a Chicago native myself. I don't live near you so I can't make specific recommendations on preschools, but I recently enrolled my son in preschool and I found that the churches that offered programs were quite affordable.

We didnt really know anybody here when we moved here and I also wanted my child to be able to socialize with other kids. If you look there are free activities you can take your daughter too so she can interact with other kids. Look for story times at local libraries or Barnes and Noble stores. You can also take her to McDonalds when they have a small fry club. Ive heard Chix Filet has a similar program. We dont live near one but Pottery Barn Kids has Summer Sing-Alongs and a book club on Tuesdays. Visit their website for times and locations. Best of luck.

THERE IS A PROGRAM CALLED HEAD START. i DO BELIEVE THERE ARE 2 FACILITIS IN THE NORTH ARLINGTON AREA. I DO NOT HAVE THERE # BUT YOU CAN CALL INFORMATION OR GOOGLE IT ON THE WEB. ALSO I HAVE A 3 1/2 YR OLD LITTLE GIRL AND SHE HAS STAYED HOME W/ ME OR FAMILY. I RECENTLY PUT HER IN A MOMMY'S DAY OUT PROGRA 1 DAY A WEEK AND SHE DOES GYMNASTICS NOW AS WELL TO BREAK HER OUT OF HER SHELL. THE MDO PROGRAM IS IN SOUTH ARLINGTON BUT, I DO HAVE A FRIEND FROM WORK THAT GOES TO ONE IN NORTH ARLINGTON IT IS AT THE FIELDER ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH. HER SON IS IN HIS 2ND YEAR THERE AND SHE IS VERY PLEASED WITH THE FACILITY. BUT, THE REASON I MENTIONED MY BABY GIRL IS IF YOU WOULD LIKE WE COULD SET UP A PLAYDATE SOMEWHERE IF YOU'D LIKE.
