Looking for a Play Space for Young Kids in the Boston Area.

Hi, I am looking for a play space to take a very active two year old on rainy days. Tried Together in Motion in Arlington twice but it has been full of older kids (5+) who are not watching out for little ones under foot. Are there any places around Boston that specialize or are limited to toddler or pre-school kids? Thanks!

It's a bit of a drive, but Perpetual Motion in Lowell is really great for toddlers/pre-schoolers. It's like an outside playground, only inside -- swings, sandbox, climbing structures, giant legos, etc. Only kids 5 and under can play in the young area. On the other side of the space is an area for 5+, with climbing, a big foam pit etc. appropriate for older kids. It's about $7 a child for the "little kids" and you can bring your own food.

hi F....

i hope this helps.

i take my boys and [have always] enjoyed the childrens museum. they have a section for "little ones" that is safe and the kids just love being so independent!!

there is a bubble section that my 2 year old [just HATES to leave] to move on....ya know? =]

and.. and.. and..a "fruck" section!! hee hee

when you first walk in, they have a basket ball court kinda room that is pretty short, just the right size for short people!!

just a thought...I love how my boys [of all ages] have grown with the childrens museum...there is something for everyone.

and the membership deal is pretty good for families. on friday nights it only costs (i think) a dollar, after 5.

good luck...*high five*?

Yeah, amazing how BIG a kindergartener is next to a toddler! And some little ones really need to be able to run around. How about the Children's museum? They have a section that, as I recall, is for three and under. A yearly membership works out to not that much per visit if you use it a lot, or you can get a pass from your local library if money is tight.

We have really enjoyed the TotPlex in Canton for my 2 girls- we went when one was as young as 1 1/2 and usually in the morning there aren't many older kids. They also have staff there who monitor the larger structures to help keep it safe for all ages. The website is www.totplex.com

Also if you live in Boston, you can get a pass from the library for the Children's Museum so it's only $2 a person. I believe most branches have that, as well as some other passes like the Zoo. Children's does have a great playspace for under 3s. We have also played there for hours!

Maybe try the Kidspace in Belmont (at the Payson Park Church on Belmont St). They are volunteer-based and you have to join but people seem to really like it.

Hi F.,
Not sure if you are looking for an organized group but if not there are some malls that have nice playspaces that are designated for kids under 5. The two my kids like best are at the hanover Mall and at the Brockton Mall but there are other malls that have them.
Good luck!

Try the Kids Playground in Woburn. We go there a lot. $8.99 per child, $3.99 per adult. You can not bring in your own food though. They have a snack bar, pizza, hot dogs, things on that idea. They have those big tubes for the kids to climb around in, a village with dress up, pianos a beauty parlor. They have a rock climbing wall, a tree house and a space for the little ones. It is located off of Olympia Ave.
