Looking for a Park with a Playground!

I was just wondering if there is a nice playground near Shawnee or even as far as Kansas City? We just moved here and we have been to Swope Park which was really nice but I'm looking for something a little closer. Is there a website that would tell me of different parks in the area? The weather is so nice and my 6 year old needs all the exercise he can get! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Wow...great information! Thanks everyone! We went to Antioch Park on Sat. and my son loved it! The "Dodge City" is so cute and he had a great time "robbing the bank" We will be checking all the others too....Thanks again!

I didn't see Listowel Park at 71st & Quivira on the list. All the kids call it the "Pirate Park" because it has ship themed play equipment that looks like the bow of a ship with the wheel, flag and sails. It's really cute. And a bonus is that there is a bathroom very close to the kid area!

Try Shawnee Mission Park (near 87th & Renner Blvd).

Also, try Antioch Park. It's between Shawnee Mission Parkway and 71st street off of Antioch.

Have fun!

I have been taking my kiddos and dogs to 2 great parks forever. I found the following to be both very safe and the most fun for the kids. Shawnee Mission Park is a great family park (there is a ton to do there). Antioch park is a great family park too but is so safe when it's just me and my 3 year old and 9 month old without daddy.

There is an awesome park with a walking track around a lake here in Olathe. It is just off of Old 56 Hwy and I-35. I believe the name is Frisco lake. It has a huge play area - picnic area and is pretty peaceful and they keep it really nice.

Have you tried Sar-Ko-Par Park at 87th and Lackman? It has a wonderful area with jungle gym and swings that are on the other side of a pond with a walking trail. (Don't worry-there's a barrier so your son would be far away enough from the water.) There is also a train car there that I'm sure you little guy would love to check out. Drive south on Lackman and go left on 87th and take a right at the red barn!

South Lake park is nice, and has a pond with "duckies" (off of 87th, between Metcalf and Antioch), Antioch park (as previously mentioned), there is a park (forgot the name) off of 87th and Switzer, behind the library. Also, you must check out Deanna Rose (animals, play area, everything)!

One at 69th & Quivira

Here's the link to the Johnson County parks:

Overland Park also has many great parks, and the website is pretty helpful. Plus, if you have any questions, just use the contact link and ask someone! They've been great for me (as have the people at Leawood's parks page.)

There are tons of wonderful parks much closer than Swope, and much safer, too. Good luck, and enjoy! My son really enjoys Antioch Park (Shawnee Mission & Antioch), Leawood City Park (105th & Lee), South Lake Park (87th just east of Antioch), and of course, Deanna Rose (an Overland Park city park, at 137th & Switzer, with farm animals, hayrides, playgrounds, etc. WONDERFUL park!).
