I am currently pregnant and looking for a midwife in the area. I have heard great things about the Harris HEB hospital so I am thinking I will deliver there. I have used a midwife int he past and loved her. I'd love to find another great midwife to help me with the natural birthing process. I am not into a Dr that will send me to the hosp a week early to do a c-section. Does anyone know anyone great I can call?

What can I do next?

I delivered 2 of my babies with Betty Hoffman. she has had priveledges at various hospitals. its been 2yrs but last baby I delivered at Inana Birth center in Denton near Elm and 2min from Presby. it is a great birth center and at that time they had 4midwives. they do home births too. my last baby was a water birth. awesome!

You might look into Gentle Beginings birth center in the HEB area. They have several wonderful staff midwives. Kristi Martin, Ann Crowel and Donnelynn Dominguez are all wonderful! I know you said you wanted the hospital but you might really like the environment of a birth center better. You could also try Harris downtown. Lynsey Cragle (not sure of the spelling of her name) has recently moved there and she is wonderful! She also does well woman exams as well as prenatal care. Harris downtown is recently offering water birth and tubs in the rooms. These are life savers during natural birth. Feel free to contact me if you want further info. You should also check out www.dfwbirthphotographer.com not only is she an amazign photographer but she has relationships with a ton of area midwives and she is familiar with the environment and policies at several area hospitals.

Bonnie Kitchen is at EdenSong Birthing Services, and lives in Hurst. Very experienced British lady, trained in the British midwifery techniques, (England is primarily a midwifery birthing country...) She has been trainer to many midwives in Texas today. Can do stitches if necessary, administer oxygen, etc. She "midwifed" at several of my grandchildren's births. These were all home births, so I don't know about the HEB Harris thing.
Also there are wonderful doulas in the area, Tara Dawn Pembroke, at ###-###-####, who lives in east FW; she could probably suggest other excellent midwives she's worked with as well.
And Kelle White, my yoga instructor, who offers prenatal yoga classes, both for mother and mother-and-father, and Mam-maste, post-birthing yoga classes for mother and baby, very well-attended, is an experienced doula as well. Google her website, LotusYoga in west FW, to contact her and see what she offers.

I delivered at Harris downtown FW with the UNT midwives. They are all excellent BUT each time you see them you have to wait awhile, that was the ONLY thing I hated about them. There are four that you rotate and, like I said, they are all wonderful. Be careful with Gentle Beginnings, we looked into there and they have no means to rescitate an infant which is really scary imo because it would only take 1-2 minutes for an infant before dying. If you are wanting a birth center, I would make the drive to the Denton one where they are MUCH more prepared to handle emergencies imo (and my dh's opinion who is a family doc). Just my 2 cents. I don't believe any midwives do HEB Harris though...good luck deciding!

In that case I'm not sure I'd deliver there. I didn't find the staff as a whole to be supportive of a natural approach (at all!!!!) and I would definitely not do it without a doula! I dont think any midwives havebpruvelges there, but IOU should visit with Sarah Jones of the New Beginnings Birth center which is only about 7 min from that hospital. I delivered at HEB in July of 08 and will most certainly not be going back!!! I'll leave it at that.

Hi K.,
There are no midwives who are employed by Harris HEB. Harris Fort Worth has a group of five midwives who are wonderful (Tania, Candice, Gloria, Lyndsay, and Kathleen), support waterbirth, and are very knowledgeable about the normal birth process.
Gentle Beginnings Birth Center is close to HEB. The midwives there are wonderful, too. They absolutely do have ways to resuscitate a newborn! I'm actually using a midwife from the Gentle Beginnings birth center for my own birth.
Good luck!
