Looking for a Houston Area Preschool for My 3 Yr Old

I am looking for a preschool for my three year-old son to attend. I would like something that is just a few hours a week; maybe 2 days a week for 2 hours a day. I have looked into a Mother's Day Out program and don't think that is what I am looking for. Does anyone know of a preschool program (not day care) run out of someone's home or something else that would fit? I live near downtown Houston and the Heights.

Thanks!

Have you considered a part-time program at a Montessori school?

St. Michael's Day School has been in Oak Forest area for more than 50 years. (610 and Ella) My 3 children went there. I like the school and teachers so much, I started working there 3 years ago. We have a 5 day program. our hours are from 8:30-11:30am with MDO and after school hours if needed. You can find information about our day school at www.stmichaelshouston.org or call the office between 9:00am-12:____@____.com have 10 students in our 3 year old class with 2 teachers. This helps each child to receive the one on one attention they deserve.

St. Andrews Episcopal in the Heights has preschool program. I think you can choose 2, 3 or 5 days a week. It is a Montessori program and is great.

St. Marks in the Heights has a great MDO program. You can do 2 days a week but it is a full day. You may also want to look into Gymboree's drop off program. The have a drop off program that is 2 hours - you can do 1 day or 2 days a week. If you want more info just call Gymboree ###-###-#### and ask about the Gymboree Junction class. Hope this helps.

I know of a number of programs, but none that run for as few as 2 hours a day (4 hours seems to be about the minimum), especially for preschools -- MDOs seem to be a little more forgiving on times. You may want to look into Esperanza (the Heights), St. Lukes Day School (River Oaks), St. Paul's School (Museum District). My son attended St. Paul's last year and we loved it. The one thing that you really need to be watchful of are deadlines. Many are close, if they have not already passed, and most schools in the area have waitlists. I live in the Heights as well, and I've looked into many of the schools inside the loop, if you'd like to email me, I'd be happy to share what I've learned.

You might want to try St. Rose of Lima. It is a Catholic Church and School in the Garden Oaks neighborhood which is near the Heights. They have many different programs for children.

L.,
You might look for a "mothers-day-out" program at a nearby church. They are usually 2 to 3 days a week, free and he will get to play with lots of kids that way. It might give you a chance to meet some moms in the area, too. We live in NW Houston and I know of several near here. My 3-year-old granddaughter is in a woman's home while her parents work and she loves that. Wishing you success. C.

I'm not aware of any programs that run only a couple hours/ a couple days a week. Have you thought about a private tutor.....also be aware...any program that provides care for children, even if its in a home should have a daycare license....there are a lot of people out there without licenses....a license or registration permit is not hard to get...and if they don't have one you have to ask yourself why....could they not pass a criminal history check? etc.
