Hi All,

I am looking to buy a Pilates DVD, but there are so many out there. I have never done Pilates before but I've heard great things about it. I do not have time to take classes so I am looking to see what DVD's others have used and have seen results with.

Thanks!

The Stott Pilates videos are great for instruction and proper form. (www.stottpilates.com) I noticed results fairly quickly. I recently bought a few from Anna Cuban. I'm enjoying those as well.

10 minute solutions Pilates. I enjoyed it (I admit it's been on the shelf for awhile), especially that there are 5 ten minute workouts that you can do any or all of in whatever order you like. With kids, 10 minute blocks seem to be all that's available!

Hi J.,
Some years back, I started out with Denise Austin's Power Yoga plus Pilates. The yoga and the pilates are two separate segments. I thought it was great.

I used the Winsor Pilates, I bought my first set back about 6 years ago and then they came out with another set a few years later which I purchased too. They have long (one hour) and targeted (20 minutes). They were fairly expensicve (100 per set), but I love them.

Also I have some from targer that are a pilates/yoga combo, which are also great since some of the "targeted" sequences are taken from ballet (which I did for 20 years) so I love those too. They were cheap, but SOOOO similar to the windsor pilates!

I would pick up a one cheap one and try it, they add another one in a month or so.

Whatever you do, START SLOW and do the beginner ones or modified versions for the first few days. Sometimes it's difficult to do that since it's not aerobic and it feels like you may not have done much, but this uses muscles that you never knew you had and you will probably wake up the next day or two later unable to move if you start to much at once.

I have the Gaiam Ann Caban videos, which I like. The beginners is good, but you'll likely grow out of it quickly. The intermediate is great and the other ones that target abs and buns are REALLY hard, which is great when it is the only thing that I can find time to do.

Good luck!

I bought the intro dvd to Windsor Pilates and have to say that in 2 weeks, I am seeing a change in my flexibility already and have lost 5 lbs. You have to be careful though because they will put you on an autoship set up for $45 a month or something outrageous.

I take a pilates class through my school district's continuing education. My instrucor recommends the Stott pilates videos. I like them because they stress proper positioning and breathing which is critical in pilates. You can choose a workout to fit your time too. My 9 year old daughter and I like to do the pilates for kids video together.

I used to go to classes at Fiore Pilates in Mamaroneck. They are great and can work around your schedule. I use the dvd by Crunch (the gym) and love it almost as much as going to the studio.

Before I had my son, I used to use the Winsor Pilates DVDs. I did like them and they worked, but they are a little too long now that I don't have the time I used to.

Now I use a DVD called "10 Minute Solution Slim & Sculpt Pilates (it comes with a resistance band). This DVD is great because it is set up into 5 different 10 minute workouts, so you can either just workout for 10 minutes or pick however many workouts you have time for. I ordered it from amazon.com and it was pretty cheap. There are a bunch of different 10 Minute Solution workout videos, too, if you want to mix things up. Good luck!
