Looking for a Good OB/GYN...that Actually Listens And.....

I am looking for a good OB/GYN that actually listens and does not just want to prescribe meds for symptoms. Here is the deal, I had a hysterectomy in 2005 because of endo, well now I am having MAJOR cramps again and my regular doc thinks it could be endo, but the only way to accurately diagnose endo is a laprascopy. Well I went to an OB/GYN and after hearing my symptoms, she wanted to put me on birth control pills. I do not want to just take the pill because SHE THINKS it could be endo, especially since I finally have my high blood pressure under control, I do not want to have to be on a domino effect of meds. So if anyone knows a GREAT OB/GYN that actually listens, I would appreciate some referrals. I have UnitedHealth Care insurance and live in McKinney, but I would be fine with someone in Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and maybe even Dallas.

Thanks in advance....
S.

I am going to second Rachel's suggestion of Dr. Tyuluman. I actually go to Dr. Brough, who is his partner, and the other doctor in their practice, Dr. Angel delivered my baby. All 3 are excellent. Tyuluman has a dry sense of humor and Dr. Brough is more the fatherly one. Again, can not say enough wonderful things about this practice. They are truly what doctors should be...kind, knowledgeable, and just plain amazing. I went into labor 3 months early with my daughter, and all three of them helped me keep her in till she was term.

Hi S.,

There's a doctor that's part of a group of ob/gyns (North Central Wone's Health Partners, www.ncwhp.com, ###-###-####) that many friends of mine go to. Her name is Lori Halderman and they always tell me how she always gives them a hug when they come in and that she really listens attentively and never hurries them up during their appointments. I haven't gone to her since I don't have a need for it at this moment, but plan on going to her for my next well woman appointment. Their office is in the Medical Center of Mckinney so it should be close to you. Good luck with everything.

My OB is great but is not taking new patients. I thought I would let you know that she told me when we thought I had endometriosis, the only way to diagnose it for sure is through exploratory surgery. We ended up doing that as I also had an ovarian cyst that we could choose to remove or not-- I chose to remove it so we could find out about the endometriosis. They did find it and removed it, but the birth control is a preventative to keep it from returning. I, too, am not crazy about so much birth control. I just wanted to share this with you as my own experiences. If you learn of another way to control it that does not involve birth control, I would love to hear about it. Your OB may be opting to put you on the birth control to spare you the surgery?

I wanted to offer my OB/GYN for your consideration. He is Dr. Christopher Riegel in Plano. His office is off Midway just past the light at Parker. He is a very good doctor and is very aggressive in treating endometriosis. He was able to diagnose mine and delivered and saved my baby and I during a difficult Cesarean. He is very matter of fact and does not beat around the bush. He also is not a touchy feely doctor, which I appreciate, but others find a little off putting. All in all, I think he's great!

Well it doesn't get much better than Dr. Tyuluman at Presby Dallas (pronounced like "to la men"). I too live in Mckinney and have United Health Care but I have been going to Dr. Tyuluman since I was 16 (I'm 32 now) and would never go anywhere else. He always sits down to talk with you when you go in and he REALLY listens to what you want and feel. He has cared for me through two pregnancies as well and helped me with depression, irregular cycles etc... you name it. He has fixed it for me. There is also a Dr. Angel who works with him if you prefer a woman. She actually delivered my second son and she is probably the most sincere, caring woman I know. If Dr. Tyuluman left (God for bid), I would switch to her in a heartbeat. Of course, you may not want to go as far as Presby Dallas and I understand that. For me, when I have the perfect Dr., I am willing to go the distance. Their number is ###-###-#### (i think)

Margaret Christensen in dallas is the best. She does not take insurance and will need you to educate yourself and be ready to take ownership of your health, but, if you're tired of the medications, surgeries, etc, she's the one to go see. www.healingwomen.com
