The newborn is in dire need of a swing to help her calm down. Any suggestions as to which one to purchase or steer clear?

Hi Z.,

My son (9 weeks) has a Graco 6 speed swing and he hates it. Screams everytime i put him in plus there is no locking mechanism so you cant lock the swing an place the baby in there without it moving. I wish I had an alternative...could really use one!

I don't know about swings but my three year old loved then and now "Guitar Lullabies". It's a little early for your little one but we use it every night for him to go to sleep by.

Hi Z.,

My daughter didn't like the regular height swings...she loved the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders swing that sits right above the ground...it folds very easily so you can take it with you anywhere!

Congrats on the new baby! Mine just turned one...time flies - when you're exhausted remember that. You'll be getting your sleep again before you know it...and you'll wonder how you ever made it through!

Congratulations!

Everything I read while trying to pick a swing before my daughter was born said the Fisher Price Cradle swing was the best. I have to agree. My daughter LIVED in the swing for the first 3 months. That's where she slept at night. It's great b/c it's a cradle-shape so it reclines more than other swings. I have friends who also got it and are very happy they did. I have 2 friends who got other swings for their children and both asked to borrow mine after trying the others.

Hope you find somethign that works and your daughter sleeps more :)

Hi, Z.,

We have the Baby Papasan Cradle Swing and my daughter loved it! She is almost a year old now so of course she doesn't use it anymore. It is a bit expensive (129.00?) but we got it as a shower gift and she used it until she was about 6 months old. The seat cradles the baby and there is music and a mobile, too.

Have you tried a bouncy seat? The Fisher Price Ocean Wonders bouncy seat was also a lifesaver and much less expensive!

Good Luck!

My son loved the Baby Papasan. He used to nap in it everyday & some nights too. It is a little expensive but well worth it. It swings sideways or forward/back. It has a mirror and birds above to look at.

My five month old son loves the Fisher Price Aquarium one, which swings in two different directions and has fish that rotate above him. We got our at Babies R Us in Niles. We use it to calm him and he loves to sleep in it. He has been using it for months.

When my son was an infant I had one of the Graco (6 speed and song) swings and noticed my son did not enjoy being in it. We took a family trip in the summer and decided to buy the Fisher-Price Deluxe Take-Along Swing and my son adored it!

It's all cloth material, so it's soft and very comfy. The Gaco swing, like other swings, have the hard plastic seat with the seat cover and after awhile, I'm sure it's not comfortable.

The take along swing was great and was the only one I used when my daughter was born. She also enjoyed the swing very much. The swing soothed both my kids to sleep, always.

When I gave the swing to my sister my son and daughter (21 and 7 months at that time) cried so much....it was actually funny. They really loved this swing.

Hope this helps.

Barbara
