Looking for a Good Daycare (Center or In-home)

I realize there are pros and cons to both a center and in-home daycare. However, I'm leaning towards a center, simply because I'm a single mom and think a center would be easier due to its reliability. I toured 3 centers this past week (KinderCare on France, New Horizons off of Normandale Lake Blvd, and Children's World on Cedar Ave). If anyone has had any encounters (positive or negative) with these specific centers or maybe ones at different locations, I would love to hear your input. I haven't checked out any in-home daycares yet, but if anyone has any recommendations for the Bloomington area, please drop me a line. I would appreciate any sort of help I can get. I'm new to the area and really don't even know where to start.

What can I do next?

Hi A., I just wanted to respond to you regarding your email. Just an FYI, I have a 9 month old and a single mom and am also moving to Bloomington at the end of this month! I have done both home care and a center and you just have to be careful on both really. You just have to go with your gut. I interviewed Kindercare and New Horizons, and wasn't too impressed with Kindercare. I am going with a Church center in Bloomington(they are a bit less expensive and only have 8 infants). You can go through the following website if you haven't already, it may help. http://www.co.hennepin.mn.us/vgn/portal/internet/hcchanne...

Let me know if you have any questions ok!

Hi A., I live in edina and take my little girl to KidZone in St Louis Park.
It's easy to get there, right off 100 N and Excelsior. I heard that Kindercare was too much structure and not much fun.
Hopet his helps!!

I know a great in-home day care in east Bloomington, on about 90th and Portland, near Indian Mounds school. I can get a number and availability info if you are interested.

Or you can go to www.google.com and type in the search hennepin county daycare to view many resources on daycare. I know Dakota County has a website where you can select that you want to view in home daycare from 1-so many miles away from your home address. The county does back ground checks on these providers and when you select the person you want you call the county and ask them if there are any violations or complaints. This helps with the selection process. There were many people not suitable for my standards on childcare. Good luck and I hope I helped you in some way.

If you can afford it,I would stick with the center. I am a single mother also of a 3-year old and had him in an in-home daycare til about6 months ago. I did not have good affordable back-up care so I was forced to take him to a drop-in center way out of my way and $75 a day. I decided a center was piece of mind for me in that they are only closed certain days out of the year, most when I am off also, and very reliable. The past six months have been fabulous. The centers are open more expanded hours also so when I work till 5:30pm I can still pick him up by 6pm when his daycare center closes. All in all a center has for me, as a single mom, been great. I live in West Bloomington off of Busch Lake Rd, work in Eden Prairie, and take my son to The Cradle Club in Edina, five miles from my home and then 5 miles from my office. I can definately recommend this center if you're looking. One of my co-workers also has his daughter there. If you want their telephone number respond back. Hope this helps.
