I am looking for a fabulous PK5 & up school. My son is currently in a good church program, however, they are not known for their academics. My wish list is that I find a loving & nuturing, low teacher/student ratio, heavy on the reading & teaching, 9am start class. I also need to be able to talk to teacher if I am concerned about something... I live in Valley Ranch... Pls help..

What can I do next?

If you want great (and I only know the one's in Dallas - but they are great) - I would look at Lamplighter, St Marks & Greenhill. There's also Episcopal School of Dallas.

Hello Justine,
Holy Covenant ECDP (Early Childhood Dev. Program) in Carrollton off of Peters Colony and Josey is an awesome school. This year they are celebrating their 30th Year. I had the same concerns for my son, who is now in first grade. The school hours are 9am-2pm Mon-Thursday. They have very low student teacher ratios (Kindergarten was 5:1 this year) and the teaching is more hands on and hardly any paper worksheets. Their reading program has 22 levels and is catered to each childs own reading level. The school also has spanish, science class, music and PE as part of their curriculum. Please call Sheryl Toney the director and ask for a tour.

Look into Coram Deo Academy. They have several campuses, some have PK, some don't. I taught 5th grade there for a few years and only left to be a SAHM. They are Christian and have great academics. I'd love my kids to be able to go there one day. Go to an info meeting and see what you think.

Hi Justine,
Here's another request that someone put in this past summer, to which I responded. As you'll see in my response, I too live in Valley Ranch and did quite a bit of research on daycare centers before I put my baby in one. Although I can't spreak to Pre-K personally, I've heard that Discover & Share's pre-school and after school programs are supposed to be excellent, too.

Look at this post and my response for more detail about what I liked about D&S, their location, phone number, etc...

Hope this helps,

Justine,
Our boys (PK4 and 1st) have been going to Holy Cross Lutheran School since 3 years old. They begin a "real" curriculum at PK3 and have some of the best qualified teachers around (last year our first grade teacher won the "Teacher of the Year" award from Wal-Mart Neighborhood).

They are a Christian school which is very important to us and the curriculum and resources are amazing! The environment is warm, loving and nurturing at all levels - it's like getting a big hug everytime you go in. We love it and the tuition is very reasonable. It's PK3 through 6th grade - www.hcdallas.org.
Hope this helps.
Blessings,
N.
