I'm inviting another family over for dinner. I'm vegeterian so I never cook meals with meat. But now that my son is getting older. I want to invite the families of his playmates over for dinner - but I don't know what to cook. Can anyone share with me their favorite dinner recipes for guest? Thanks!!

Spaghetti!
Make a yummy sauce and then make meatballs to offer on the side. I make my meatballs in the oven- so I can get them all together before dinner and then just pop them in 20-30 minutes before dinner- they can cook along w/ the garlic bread.
Add a salad, green beans and Viola!
I always ask new guests their feelings in wine. If they drink wine I serve it, if they abstain I don't even bother.

Another great, easy, family friendly site for recipes is www.kraftfoods.com

I love the taco bar idea. (I would suggest the following toppings, if you don't usually fix these and aren't sure what to get).

ground beef, seasoned
tortillas
taco shells
cheese
shredded lettuce
sour cream
salsa
tomatos
avacados

wow, I'm hungry now!! good luck with your dinner.

I'm a simple gal, and I say do very simple things that fit well with both meat eaters and vegetarians and toddlers. (now that's a tall order..) I have found Taco Bars to work really well. I do taco meat, beans, tortillas, taco shells, shredded lettuce, and all the other toppings. Then everyone can make their own plates, you can have veggie burritos, and the kids have fun putting their own stuff on their plate. There aren't many people out there who don't like tacos and burritos, and in my experience, it has always gone over really well & is very low-stress to prepare & serve. Good luck!

You can do a chilli (veggie chilli and with meat), corn bread and baked potatoes. It will work well in this cold weather and is pretty easy to make. With all the fixings it will make a good meal in this cold weather.

E.,
I just wanted to add that if you do want to go with the taco bar idea ( a huge favorite at our house) some Krogers stores make tortillas fresh, and there is nothing better than a fresh tortilla. You might also be able to buy some fresh at a Mexican restaurant. They make such a big difference, we have never gone back to the kind you buy at the store. Have a great dinner!!

something I like to make for guests or take to new moms ...is my chicken pot pie casserole. really easy to make and people seem to love it-- including kids.

i use shortcuts to save on time.

1 rotissirie chicken (walmart, kroger, sams, tomthumb -- they all have these cooked throughout the day - none are there if you go shopping late at night though)
2 boxes of the rollout pie crust (found with refrigerated biscuit dough)= 4 total pie crust (2 in each box)
1 cream of mushroom can
1 cream of celery can
milk (measured in empty soup can)
2 cans mixed veggies
celery salt (or regular salt)
pepper

preheat oven to 400 degrees. grease 9x13 casserole pan. roll out 2 pie crusts on bottom of pan so the entire bottom is covered. de-bone chicken -- and hand shred the meat into bite-size pieces. Mix meat with veggies (drained) in a bowl; pour into casserole dish on top of crusts; spread out evenly. in a separate bowl, mix 2 cream soups with the can of milk. add 1 tsp of celery salt and 1 tsp of pepper (or add to taste) to the soup mix. Pour soup mix over chicken/veggies evenly. roll out remaining 2 pie crusts on top and seal edges to form a crust. I beat one egg in small bowl...and brush this egg wash on top of pie crust to give it a glossy finish when it's done baking....cut small slits (about 9) all over the crust to allow it to breathe as it bakes.
Bake in 400 degree oven for like 45 min- 1 hr. check on it as it gets close to being done to make sure the edges don't brown too soon. if the crust is getting too dark but the center isn't brown yet, cover that crust part with foil and continue baking.
I serve this with a caesar salad, and rolls or bread.
It can feed 12 servings ... but men usually want larger servings anyway.

Not sure if you have looked into www.allrecipes.com or www.foodnetwork.com. I always go to those sites when I can't decide what to make for friends. There is always lasagna which you could do half with meat and half without.
