My daughter LOVES music and to dance. I have contacted several places to see if I can enroll her into their dance classes, but all of them tell me they start at 2 yrs old. Does anyone know of any place she can take a class where she can do something like this a couple hours a week, at her age (1 and 1/2)? Plano/Frisco area would be best, but I'm open to other areas.

What can I do next?

Have you looked at the City of Plano recreation guide? They have several toddler classes. I know Gymboree, The Little Gym, and My Gym incorporate music and dance in their toddler classes too. I took my son to My Gym for three years and loved it! Also try Lifetime Fitness kid's activities guide. You don't have to be a member to take classes and it's not all gymnastics. They have dance, art, etc.

You might try a Kindermusik class. A friend of mine recommended it to me for my 19 month old that loves music and dance as well. We haven't gone to a class yet, since we found out we were moving soon after I got the recommendation, but now that we are getting settled into our new city I'm going to try to find a class in the area. I don't think it is formal dance type classes, but more of a music and movement style. Also, I think they offer a free first class, so you can try it before you have to sign up. Good luck and hope that helps.

We are a new dance studio in Allen. We will have a class that would be perfect for her starting in June. It is called Tiny Ballet. It really will be creative movement and tumbling with a short ballet routine taught also. Please let me know if you are interested.

I think Sheena's Dance Academy in Frisco accepts 1-1/2 year olds for combo tap/ballet classes.

I am a Kindermusik teacher and I would love to have you and your daughter join us for a free preview class anytime. I have one tonight at 6:15p.m. in Plano. If you're interested, you can call me for directions. Also, you can check our website www.kindermusikbysheila.com for another time on Mondays. We teach mondays and tuesdays. If that doesn't fit your schedule, you can call me and I'll be glad to help you find a class. Hope that helps!

I started taking my son to Music Together when he was 1 yr old because like your DD, he loved music and dance. We are still doing it and he's almost 3 yrs old. I think at 1.5, they are not old enough to keep still and follow directions for a formal dance class. At MT, parents and teachers take the lead. The kids can follow or just observe as they are comfortable with. www.musictogether.com

Music Together is a wonderful company that offers amazing music classes! I took my daughter beginning at 1 year and she loves it! The songs are really great for learning and brain development. I highly recommend it. Go to www.musictogether/dallas.com. You can take a free trial class to see if you like it.

We had the same issue with our daughter at 2 years old. The only program that I could find was at The Little Gym - it is a parent participation program and is mostly gymnastics & tumbling. I wish you much luck finding someone who has the same confidence in your little one's ability that we had - it was very discouraging for me and I ended up just playing and dancing with her myself at home. Fortunately, the lack of confidence that others had in her hasn't hindered her enthusiasm and love for dancing! We finally found someone to take her at 2-1/2 years old and realized that it is the potty training issue and their short attention span that seems to be an issue for most "class" oriented programs. You may have better luck finding an individual instructor to work with her one on one.
