"Looking for a Caring Open Minded Pediatrician in the St. Louis, MO Area"

I had a premature infant that has had a long NICU stay in the hospital. She has been through quite a bit and through it all, she beat the odds and didn't have any bleeding in the brain. I have some concerns and don't want to rock the boat. I would like to find a pediatrician that is understanding and would allow for a more flexible vaccination schedule. Our insurance is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, but even if anyone knows of a really good pediatrician that doesn't take our insurance, please let us know too. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Dr. Jill Baer (Baer Pediatrics) at MO Baptist ###-###-####. We also have Anthem. We had 2 premature babies. One at 36 weeks and one at 34 weeks, they are now 4 and 18 months. I can't say enough good things about her.

Dr. Jerome O'Neil is with Southwest Pediatrics in South St. Louis (actually all of the doc's are good there). At any rate, my childre get their vaccinations but I dont follow the "normal" schedule and its never an issue. They do accept bcbs! Good luck!

Dr. Martin Schmidt at Southwest Pediatrics in St. Louis Hills is great and so are the other doctors there. You never have a problem getting in and the nurses that answer the phone have always been very helpful. I also don't go by the recommended schedule for shots and he has always been able to work with me on that and never pushes the issue. Good Luck

Dr. Young at Docs4Kidz in Sunset Hills is wonderful!! Her partner is also great as well. That is what I like best about them - it's just the 2 of them and you never get sent to a hotline after hours when you have questions you always get one of them! My husband and I were a little concerned about some of the vaccines and while she wants children to get them - she is very willing to work with you, calm your fears and delay some for a while as long as they get them eventually. The number is ###-###-#### and they have a website www.docs4kidz.com

Good Luck

Hi,
Congratulations on your new addition and sorry to hear about the prematurity - : (
My daughter was premature, 2 months early. I was on bed rest at Mo Bap and she was in their NICU, I LOVE THAT HOSPITAL AND STAFF!!
I have read the responses and it sounds like you have a lot of ppl that love their ped's and I would definitely check out web sites for those practices.
We go to St. Louis Pediatrics, located in the medical building west of St. Luke's Hospital. It is a large group of doctors, but I absolutely love the practice and have a lot of friends/family that take their kids there as well.
I think it is up to you and the doctor to decide on vaccines, but any ped should value your opinion and do them as you want with their expertise knowledge guiding you on times to do them.
For example, I only gave my daughter the flu vaccine until she was 2 yrs old, I wasn't interested in it after that, nor do I get one myself. My ped was fine with that.
This practice does have after hours answered by nurses at Children's Hospital, but if you need the doctor you can reach her/him. Most doc's in the practice pair up with one other doctor there to cover each other and they pair up with whom they have the same views on treating things.
Here is the number if you want to call....# ###-###-####.
Good Luck,
D. S.
