I'm looking for some fun 1/2 day (9-1 or 9-2 or something similar) summer camps for my 12-year-old foster daughter this summer. She doesn't like contact sports, but loves art and theater and is open to other stuff. Scholarship possibilities would be a bonus :). Does anyone have any suggestions? I've spent quite a bit of time online looking, but can't seem to find camps that fit the 1/2 day criteria that would be good for a tween girl :).

You might want to check out the courses at the Community School for Music and Arts (CSMA) in Mountain View (near the Palo Alto border). They have many art and music classes for all ages, and "Summer Camps" classes typically last a 1/2 day. They also have ongoing exhibits, free musical events, etc. It's a great community resource.

Here are a few ideas for you.
Peninsula Youth Theater does two week summer camps with a performance on the last day. This is a very fun camp for 11-14 year olds. The time is 8:30-3:30 Monday thru Friday. If she likes drama she will have a great time. My daughter has done this camp 4 times.
Community School of Music and Arts has several 1/2 day classes. My daughter loves the American Idol Camp (lots of singing), 6/14-6/18 9-12pm.
Starting Arts has a 4 week Theater Camp (Peter Pan) at Wilcox High School 6/21-7/17,
9am-2pm Mon-Thurs.
Valley Christian is also doing a Theater Camp (Wizard of Oz) 9-1pm, I think.

Look into Palo Alto sports and recreation, the YMCA, maybe Big Brothers and Sisters. Maybe a summer nanny that likes sports and the arts like me. I am a nanny for 2 kids: 11 and 7 year old girls. We play frizzbe, soccer, tag, and act out princess Disney movies . I fix them a snack and we do coloring and painting . They also like watching a movie once in a while with some popcorn balls and home made lemon-aid. Some times you can get a good deal for a college student like me. 9am -3pm I work for $7 an hour. But be careful and do your back ground checks. I am lucky, my mom's co-worker needed some one and they have known each other for years. I love kids and animals and it helps me financially and academically,because I am studying for psychology. Good luck, check Criag's list or nanny web pages. You never know.
look at wow science, they have week programs that are 1/2 day and in your area.

Have you checked out the YMCA? They have lots of different camps for all ages. My daughter really enjoys the camps she has gone to. Good luck!
